Figured out what was wrong with my implementation of Emmanuel Bourg's #kotlin #bootstrap chain (https://github.com/ebourg/kotlin-bootstrapping), so now I managed to mirror the same chain, but *completely bootstrapped* (all prebuilt jars are removed from sources).

still a long way to go :D

I used to depend on the Web to look for UNICODE characters, but not anymore. Now I use my system:

1️⃣ Alt + F2

2️⃣ gnome-characters

3️⃣ Type "lock"

And that's it. Very nice.

Once they add support for searching in more languages other than English, it will be great.

As I wrote in a comment, I think we #FreeSoftware folks and #Guix in particular must address the shortcomings of traditional distros that make flatpak appear necessary. Instead we must design for practical user freedom.

The alternative is: more control for software vendors, or more power to users?
