A new #law goes into effect today in #Louisiana that will make it a misdemeanor for anyone, including #journalists, to be within 25 feet of a police officer if the officer orders them back.
Louisiana is the 4th state to enact one of these so-called #police "buffer laws," which allow officers to order people to keep their distance.

Louisiana Makes It Illegal to Disobey a Cop’s Order to Back Away
Louisiana is the fourth state to enact a so-called police buffer law, which allows officers to order people to keep their distance. Journalists say the law will make it harder to document when police use excessive force.ProPublica

First things first, stop calling it Upload Moderation and call it Chat Control! Many of you still call #ChatControl Upload Moderation but that doesn't do this #privacy invading law justice!

Folks, I just found a treasure trove:
a list of over 1,300 #journalists that already are on #Mastodon in the form of a #googledoc
In order to give the #BorgSite its final push, journalists there need to see that there really is an audience for them here in the free #fediverse
Some pull marketing would be helpful: follow as many, as you find sensible. This helps a lot.
Please boost!

@stim And I like that #CANADALAND really does cover stories that aren't covered elsewhere - especially about the news media itself. And #indigenous news and #journalists.
I'm not sure that #Mastodon will ever be able to provide as powerful a platform for breaking news as the #BirdSite did: it is contrary to Mastodon's fundamental vision to force a single news thread into everyone's face, the way the BirdSite does.

Hi, fellow #journalists ... in an attempt to make the Twitter diaspora a little easier, I'm compiling a list of #journalism types on mastodon. Currently it's biased toward #science / #scicomm types, but there are others in there.
I'll post the names, but the ongoing project is available on Github here: github.com/cgseife/mastodonpeo…
