Things I noticed that are different between #bluesky and #mastodon

Blue sky: hey this person is here from #birdsite follow them now!

Mastodon: welcome here's the keys, you know about hashtags cause that's gonna be important for you

Blue sky: we got away welcome all our friends

Mastodon: oh cool, you're here

Blue sky: I am so unique!

Mastodon: we have sheepherders have you met them? There cool people

Blue sky: *shows all the pets*

Mastodon: *shows all the pets*

I'm restarting my new/favourite #HarryPotter #Fanfic thread here, since #BirdSite is well, that... Let's start with this incredible thing, which is keeping me so engrossed that I cannot put it down, other than to type this. I will add to the thread with subsequent reads, and perhaps some old favourites.

Apparently, #elmo wants to bring #API usage at the #birdsite down by forcing #developers to pay for consuming it. What a #jerk move - but it does not really surprise me...

Apparently Twitter has marked my Mastodon instance, hci.social, as “unsafe,” along with most other instances I tried. If he’s going after littler instances like this, it seems increasingly like a vendetta against Mastodon itself instead of some happenstance/accident.

During the latest episode of #YourUndividedAttention, a connection between #birdsite and #cults is drawn by #TristanHarris, from the Center for #HumaneTechnology.

I realize it’s not @humanetech@lemmy.ml @humanetech@mastodon.social or @humanetech@tilvids.com. Still interesting to understand group behaviours from diverse perspectives.

@stim And I like that #CANADALAND really does cover stories that aren't covered elsewhere - especially about the news media itself. And #indigenous news and #journalists.

I'm not sure that #Mastodon will ever be able to provide as powerful a platform for breaking news as the #BirdSite did: it is contrary to Mastodon's fundamental vision to force a single news thread into everyone's face, the way the BirdSite does.

But I've been thinking, maybe that's for the best in the long run.
