Stand up for the marginalized people most at risk. It’s the right thing to do, and sooner than later you will be the target

Understand that they’re conditioning people to accept the unacceptable. They’re starting with trans people, Palestinians and disabled people because they know most people will look the other way.

When you look the other way in the face of evil, it changes you.

If you think mask bans are “no big deal” because there’s medical exemptions, please consider the following:

😷 Police are not doctors
😷 Many disabilities are invisible
😷 Disabled people don’t live in a bubble. I need my friends and caregivers to mask to protect me
😷 Everyone should have the right to protect their health, you shouldn’t have to already be sick to be permitted to mask
😷 Criminalizing masks sends a message that maskers are “bad”. It emboldens anti-maskers and increases odds of aggression

The reality is that mask bans are discriminatory, ableist and eugenicist. They push disabled people out of public spaces. They put marginalized and POC at increased risk of police profiling.

There’s no official policy for a medical exemption either, it’s at police discretion.

If you’re stopped and questioned, you will have to prove you’re masking for the “right reasons”

I’m more than willing to admit that if I were stopped by a cop for masking, I would appear nervous, shaky, tachycardic and probably “suspicious”.

Not because I’m doing anything wrong, but because my illnesses do not respond well to stress and the police are stressful.

It’s not right to put the onus on the masker to defend their right to mask. We’re still in a global pandemic. Texas has a measles outbreak. There’s tuberculosis in Kansas. Bird flu is spreading and it’s the worst year for influenza A in over a decade.

Masks are a public health tool. They’re a disability accommodation. They should NOT be criminalized.

Email leaked to Ken Klippenstein telling NOAA employees that their course material can’t contain ANY of the following words in order to remain complaint with Trump’s executive order on DEI.

The party than ran on freedom and speech and avoiding censorship now actively censoring people.

Every word breaks my heart… but I want to pause on the inclusion of “empathy”.

The fact that they can’t use the word empathy is a perfect encapsulation of this whole administration.

A few brief words about the American Airlines flight 5342 crash in Washington DC

It’s important to remember that not everything we see or read on social media is true. News happens fast when there’s a disaster of this magnitude, and a lie makes its way around the world before the truth can put its boots on.

Be careful what you’re sharing and who you’re amplifying. Family and loved ones of people who were on that plane are no doubt on social media too. Don’t add to their trauma.

If you can, include a trigger warning if sharing the video. It’s painful and difficult to watch and many people would rather not see it.

Wait for search and rescue to do their job. We don’t want to give people false hope or unnecessarily panic them either.

I assume a bigger conversation will happen in the coming days, but it is worth noting that Trump fired the heads of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Coast Guard, and disbanded the Aviation Security Advisory Committee.

It’s way too soon to know what happened, but this is an example of why the WAY the Trump admin are governing is so dangerous.

They’re executing so many freezes, firings and executive orders so quickly that people can’t keep up.

They’ve exhausted and stressed out the public to the point that critical news will be missed.

I suspect many of us didn’t know about his TSA and aviation security firings until this crash happened.

This is one more reason to follow and support credible, dedicated independent journalists who you can trust to keep you well informed during these increasingly hectic and disinformation heavy times.
