If the meal came to more than £2, (which only happened rarely by accident when we hadn't been keeping track of what we ordered) we would actually pay the amount of the bill, but if it came to less than £2 we'd pay £2, the difference being the tip.
The waiters soon learned to write us bills for around £1.70 each regardless of what we'd had to eat.
