Is this... a new @panoramax instance I see there?
Yes, it is! For #Wales! panoramax.wales/

This is not a good look, to put it mildly. I really like(d) my framework 13, but got a MacBook last month. Felt kinda sad because using a framework was so much cooler from an idealistic way. Don’t feel as bad anymore now.

Hi, I am not exactly sure how best to frame this, but recent events have got me wondering where exactly Framework, as a company, stands with regards to human rights and equality.Framework Community
Hey, @frameworkcomputer -- since you like big tents, you should also welcome krita, even if the maintainer is a trans woman.
After all, you use Krita in your 12 laptop page...
So, how about you start sponsoring us, too? I think that becoming a corporate sponsor would be great?
Let's talk euros!
This is a spin-off from #10 where I'd like some input from the team, concerning how to handle the following unmaintained apps with security relevance: * [x] [`com.github.IrineSistiana.plugin.simple_tls_android`](https://apt.izzysoft.de/packages/com.Codeberg.org
I'm a little confused about the Framework/DHH kerfuffle. Is the concern that he's a dangerous person to platform because he has a following?
I haven't read anything from DHH in years, but enjoyed the early 37signals blogs from him and Jason on bootstrapping a company. I guess I've been ignoring him, and I'm not sure why he's getting so much attention now.
Can't other people just ignore him?
1. put up a rant where he publicly say he is part of the great white replacement theory, calling non white brits "not brit". 2. he organised a hostile takeover of RubyGems.
So yeah, white supremacist and dangerous.

anybody have an idea why some recent FreeBSD update would have broken the ability of ssh(1) to attach to a remote machine using .ssh/config settings that set the HostName to an IP address, but it works if the HostName has an actual name? It doesn't seem to be *all* my ssh-by-IP-address items. Issuing with -vvv shows it hanging after
debug3: Fssh_set_sock_tos: set socket 3 IP_TOS 0x48
If I switch my .ssh/config to have "HostName full.server.name.example.com", it works fine, and FWIW, doing a `host $SERVERNAME` does return the correct/same IP address that was used in the .ssh/config file originally.
For now I've updated it to just use the hostname and it works, but I can reliably switch back and forth and trigger the hang every time. In case it matters, this was with the 14.2p6 I was running as well as the 14.3p3 I just (finally) upgraded to in the hopes it would fix the issue:
$ ssh -V
OpenSSH_9.9p2, OpenSSL 3.0.16 11 Feb 2025
Was looking at the source tree for something, and it has an AGENTS.md file with this item:
* Perform like a top 0.1% programmer
🤔
In regards to Framework’s latest footgunning, lemme reiterate two things:
1. Tech is and always has been political. Anyone saying otherwise simply wants to avoid being held accountable for their words and actions.
2. “Big tent” policies do one thing: loudly express that you’re perfectly okay becoming the neighborhood nazi bar.
This continues to be exhausting. This is a crappy stance from Framework, but you will never convince a capitalist that your rights matter more than their profits.

Even those passively trying out AI-this and AI-that are part and parcel of the problem...
I've watched friends, over the last 2+ years, go from "Hey, look at this!" to "I didn't know it used that much energy!" to "Oh f*ck, I haven't had any freelance work in *insert industry here* in months..."

Trump & his buddies on the RW media are talking about Portland like it's scene from The Last Of Us. The reality is, this is what these troops are being called into stop.

"Za uplynulý rok #Bratislava zaznamenala výrazný nárast agresivity, obťažovania, aj drobných krádeží. Podľa primátora Matúša Valla za to môže aj novela Trestného zákona, ktorá znížila závažnosť krádeží do 700 eur na priestupok."

I disagree with a lot of people here, and that's fine. We can disagree on what tax rates should be. We can disagree on the best mix of public and private ownership. We can disagree on the amount of government involvement in markets. We can disagree on what privacy rights need to be protected by governments versus which need to treat the government as the adversary. We can disagree on which OS is best. We can disagree on the best way to build a Free Software ecosystem (we can even disagree on whether that's a desirable goal).
But we can't disagree on which people are people. If your perspective is that some people are not people, there is no way that we can still have a meaningful conversation. That's not a 'there are two sides' kind of debate. That's a 'no, this isn't a debate and we can't build a functioning society if you disagree' kind of debate.
I replaced my wifi card in my laptop, but perhaps one of the antenna cables was not secured as my signal goes to shit I think and sometimes it just doesn't even see 5ghz.
But if the antenna cables are secured/connected properly, is there a chance that it's expected that I literally replace the antenna cables too? that seems a bit much... I'd have expected them to be compatible because it's the same type of radio
Is it time for a truly ethical computing hardware company? One whose values would be
- open hardware as much as possible.
- repairable, upgradable, standardised.
- open software as much as possible.
- which exclude some hardware choices.
- full open source operating system support, and the default (no forked distro)
- code of conduct including for the choice of project sponsorships.
And many other.
Been there, done that. All the supposed ethical hardware and software is ultimately corruptible.
History; repeats.
One of the recent AI generated bug reports for #curl quite impressively identifies mismatches between a function header's comment mentioning that an argument is optional, but the code uses it unconditionally.
This taking comments into account certainly allows for some extra magic the classic code analyzers can't do.

The third morning marks the end of this first edition of Django On The Med 🏖️
It’s amazing how much we achieved in such a short time, with a small group of focused developers. 💪
The goal of the sprints has been fully reached. But the experience is not over yet, this afternoon’s rest and tonight’s dinner are part of the social side too. 🌅

Can't wait to be at Codemotion Milan next week to meet old and new friends, and to talk to you together with Natalia Orlandi about how we can develop UI interfaces with an eye on ethics, user needs, and simplicity.
If I had to highlight a key take-away from @ciura_victor's C++/Rust interoperability talk, that'd be that it's much easier to call Rust from C++ than C++ from Rust, which is indeed the case in my experience. Because many C++ language features have no equivalent in Rust.
