I've already told you about the additional APK checks now performed in my repo, and that you can find the first summary of explanations in the repo info (apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/i…).

Now the results of those checks on app permissions are being made transparent to you if you expand the permission section for an app. Not seen in the screenshots: on mouseover you now will get a short explanation for each permission.

And now you can find some background on the SigningBlock BLOBs on the #IzzySoftRepo info page (apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/i…) as well.

The last task of this β€žadditional APK checks projectβ€œ will be to link to the corresponding blocks from where they are reported with an app, so you can find it more easily.

And there you go. See the little blue β“˜ icons in the screenshot (and on the corresponding app details pages)? Those you can click if you want to know what the corresponding section is about.

This was the last check-box to tick on issue 475, so I just closed that now. It's sub-tasks (following up the findings) will of course be processed further, until done.

Enjoy! :awesome:

I hate the idea of the government getting involved in tech, as a general rule. I've seen too many examples of that going wrong.
The EU doesn't seem to be having much success at getting Apple to loosen their restrictions on app store downloads and purchases so far. Apple is clearly obeying the letter of the law and not the spirit, which anyone should have expected.
But at this point, I think Apple has been so hostile to users and developers that legal intervention is absolutely necessary. I can't get past the idea that developers aren't even allowed to mention Apple's 30% cut without their apps being rejected. That 30% is paid by users, not developers. Apple is actively preventing users from knowing where their money goes. This should be illegal, but it's not.
I don't believe Apple has an ounce of respect for anyone who isn't Apple at this point. They are a greedy, spiteful child who will do anything to get their way, no matter how ridiculous it is. And greedy, spiteful children need to be put in their place.

Sideloaded iPhone apps will still be reviewed by Apple and the company will 'collect fees from developers' who offer apps outside of its App Store, report claims

I hate Apple's restrictions. I also hate cookie popups. I also almost had a family member get scammed due to a fake banking app that somehow got to the top of Google Play search results, and have heard of plenty of people here being social-engineered into installing terrible crap on Android and losing all their savings. It's one of the two really popular scams over here. As a European, I'm very, very conflicted on this.]

Librsvg 2.57.90 is out! This is the first beta release for GNOME 46.

Use Rust image loaders instead of gdk-pixbuf / libpng / libjpeg-turbo. Support 'ch' CSS units, and also include all the fixes from 2.57.1.

Using Rust image loaders also means that Windows and MacOS builds should be easier, since now they don't have to have a working gdk-pixbuf just to use rsvg-convert, for example.

Today, on the 40th anniversary of the announcement of the original Macintosh, I want to share a retrospective I wrote several years ago on my family's first computer, the Apple IIGS, which was a sort of hybrid of the Apple II and Macintosh cultures. I admit I didn't have much love for the Mac side of the IIGS's heritage, much less for the Mac itself back then. Forgive the awful page template and lack of styling; I need to refresh my blog at some point. mwcampbell.us/blog/apple-iigs.…
in reply to Matt Campbell

The bit at the end about the IIGS being like two computers in one case was weak. There was a single processor, after all. That processor had 8-bit and 16-bit modes, but there were definitely hybrid applications. I don't know if anyone implemented a way to take advantage of the advanced graphics and sound from Applesoft BASIC, but there were certainly applications that used those features while running under the 8-bit ProDOS; of course, they had to switch between 8-bit and 16-bit modes.
in reply to Matt Campbell

I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't write anything in that blog post about accessibility. Basically, I had (and still have) enough usable vision that I could use the computer visually, reading the screen up close. At school, there were a few Apple IIe's with Echo speech synthesizers, but for whatever reason, we never got an Echo at home. And as far as I know, no one worked on a screen reader for the IIGS's Toolbox GUI until 1994, when I had already mostly moved on to an IBM-compatible PC.
