As an American, treacle is not really common in our desserts and most people don't even know what it is. It's a strange word though, it has some unpleasant quality to it but it's hard to pin down.

Without knowing what it is, try to use it in a sentence:

"That gas station sushi gave me a treacle of diarrhea."

Feels right, doesn't it?

The Dulon Von Paradis Project:
I’m honored to be the recipient of a Canada Counsel for the Arts Research and Development grant. Along with my colleague Michelle Coon, I’ll be travelling to Europe in March, 2026, to research the lives and work of Friedrich Dulon and Maria Theresia Von Paradis. They were contemporaries, classical musicians and composers who achieved renown in their lifetimes, who travelled to perform, worked hard at their art, and were both Blind. My interest is as a musician and storyteller. Michelle’s is as a music historian and flutist. As I think and plan ahead for our journey, I’m collecting my thoughts by writing them down, cause that’s what I do. I’m posting on Patreon. Check out my first post at this link. patreon.com/posts/dulon-von-bl…

The bug where after being on for 24-36 hours, the second hard drive on my #framework 16 laptop just...disappears...is getting really, really old. I thought it was temperature, so I started logging that. But nope. It's not an issue with the flash, because the data always comes back just fine, and there are no read errors or anything. It just gets tired after a day and decides to go for a nap. This is the problem with a fully repairable laptop: I installed it, so whatever's wrong, it's now my problem. I can't just go bother Del or whomever. It's running #Windows 11 because screen readers on Linux are still terrible, so anyone suggesting "install Linux" as the answer gets blocked. But I really don't think it's a Windows thing; it's not in device manager, or anywhere. Only fully powering down the machine and turning it back on again helps. A restart isn't enough. So it has to be a hardware thing!

Eminem sorta-discovering Ez Mil and bringin him on a track to drop this ridiculous tongue twister in tagalog is nuts

Rookie Gs actin' thuggish, you pawns to me, shut the fuck up
Annihilation's what we love, steady hittin', gettin' dubs
Just wait 'til we get the guns out
Picture this, I might be a hero to your little kid
Or a villain, either way, I'm the fuckin' head honcho

translation is roughly:

"45 caliber or 9, your choice
You have made a lot of mistakes (Out of all your misses) (You have lots of defects)
Your brain will take the hit (Only your brain took the hit) (Only your brain was correct - It's sarcastic because it also implies that even your brain has its flaws)
With your narrow thinking, you couldn’t even respond
Delving Depths/Feigning depth, I'd love to submerge you in the ocean
No need to prove anything to those who are listening
Won't be deflected by reason or your words (Your temple or mouth will not stop this)"

(the article lacks the source for "today Google announced", so I take it with a pinch of skeptic – but there's hope this is true 😉 )

This is just a general reminder as a rule of thumb: in general, please be extremely nice to IT support. It is actually astonishing to me how often people in a variety of different environments will just constantly be mean, abusive and uncooperative with people in support roles even when they're the ones asking for help.
Someone has to keep things running, and they are probably dramatically underfunded (with management constantly considering contracting out and layoffs)

I'm definitely sorry for all your struggles, and really empathize with the feeling. Dev work is never easy, but man is it rewarding when you get it right, and that's probably why I spring for it. I have very little C++ knowledge, get me into Mutexes and race conditions and I get lost quite easily. I can read the code and know what it does, but for sure my stomping ground is Python and JS / web. I'm also super busy work to the extent that, quite frankly, I just don't want to touch a computer once I'm done or look at code in my spare time, because all day every day I'm asked to do that for audits, customer tickets, pull requests, ETC, and I have zero motivation for code at the end of my day or weekends. That's just the truth, man. Full-time work will suck the soul out of you like that. Hopefully over time someone else will jump along, but until then, you've got two very powerful things on your side:
Patience, and tools. The first will help you use the second, and for tools, I encourage trying others, even free tears of Gemini or GPT 5 can be good. It does limit how much you can send it, but for these critical questions, jumping out to another AI for clarification is not a bad idea. I know with your determination we'll get there, afterall, your decades-push helped us get here today, too.

According to Valve, they managed to run pretty much all x86 games (so far) on their new ARM-based PCs thanks to this FOSS project:

github.com/FEX-Emu/FEX

This runs together with Proton to seamlessly transcode Windows x86 games for Steam OS on ARM. FOSS is THAT cool!
