I would love a native, screenreader #accessible, fast, #matrix app for Windows. I would also like not to create it, because Matrix is even more vast, complex, and incomprehensible than #XMPP and #IRC. Anyone? No? Didn't think so. Sigh.

Meanwhile, I've been following Snikket and the work they're doing (Miranda-NG just happened to update their XMPP plugin) and they seem to have a lot of practical reasons for investing their time into bringing the XMPP spec up to speed, rather than embracing Matrix. snikket.org/faq/

@debacle@jackf723@nicoco Mostly there hosting is so cheap. And I can then put xmpp bots on my machines and use snikkit as uptime monitor as well as comms for when my stuff is down. Snikkit is a cheap and cheerful solution that doesn’t involve giving money to gross enterprise cloud companies. So I could run xmpp myself, but it would defeat one of my primary purposes.

If you don't mind me theoretically being able to read your messages, you can use my XMPP/Matrix gateway. And 1:1 works, since it's just rooms with 2 persons in Matrix. :) I can whitelist your JID for matrix.slidge.im, let me know of you want that.

@nicoco@jackf723@debacle I would love that! My primary uses would be some one to one bridges with signal and whatsapp, and joining one large Matrix space. I admin a moderately sized Lemmy server, but Lemmy only delivers support and urgent announcements via Matrix. There's nothing really private in any of my chats, just co-workers and former co-workers whining about work that we'd rather our employers not be able to read. My jid is @fastfinge@im.interfree.ca. Everyone on im.interfree.ca is either an uptime bot, me, or another blind person; public jabber servers all have inaccessible captchas, so I give out accounts on mine to fellow blind people on request.

You should now be able to use most transports at *.slidge.im with your JID. Please join xmpp:slidge.im@rooms.slidge.im… for support/status updates. Some disclaimers now:
- This is a hobby project, expect downtime and bugs.
- The VPS I use is very minimal, so it might be slow at times (optimizing performance is on the todolist forever 😬).
- The Matrix transport does not let you join spaces yet, you need to join from a Matrix client. (1/2)

- While it works over federation, using an @slidge.im account leads to slightly better UX <slidge.im/docs/slidge-whatsapp…>. Ask me for an invite if you want a @slidge.im JID
- I said it already, but the way slidges work is that you absolutely trust me (the admin of slidge.im) with your credentials on the bridged chat network and that you trust that I won't read your private comms. I won't do that, but I am just a random nobody on the internet. :)

@Benedict @🇨🇦Samuel Proulx🇨🇦 Tammy is okaish on android, not so on the web and desktop unfortunatelly. I know Tammy developers are great people they are even trying to make their best to improve accessibility but Compose Multiplatform makes it very difficult.
