For Several years now, I have been interested in the accessibility of KaiOS, a platform used on newer basic phones. I have not been able to find much information online about this, and have decided to explore this further. I purchased a used Nokia 2780 flip phone from Ebay, and it arrived today! When I powered it up, I was pleasantly surprised to be instructed to press the Left Softkey to turn on readout mode. Sure enough, the setup process was fully accessible. I am now going through the various applications to see how they work while I wait for my SimCard to arrive. One thing I am finding though is that anything web based is very difficult to use. I am curious, is anyone here using KaiOS and if so, how are you finding the experience? I'm just surprised I haven't heard more talk about this as these phones could be affordable devices for users who don't want a smartphone.

in reply to Musharraf • •Now I know there are some interesting apps for #KaiOS such as matrix client, xmpp client, telegram client, RSS / podcasts, Youtube playback through invidious, openstreetmap, kodi remote control, ebooks / text files reading app and more. See at kaios.dev/2024/01/kaios-open-s…
It would be nice to find out how much #a11y there is with a #screenReader.
