Linux blind users, listen to this and let me know what you guess this actually is, and most importantly, what you think! I'm just gauging interest as this is still in its early infancy, and I was wondering if it was worth continuing. As you can infer, I'm already far enough to have a working yet incomplete prototype!

Two theories:

Either NVDA working on linux, or some sort of remote-like way of sending speech to NVDA from linux?

@modulux This is demonstrating a speech dispatcher output module I am creating that interfaces with NVDA. NVDA runs on wine, so there is actually no lag according to my tests. The end goal is to have it interface well enough to present the available NVDA synth drivers to speech dispatcher, so you would be able to use NVDA's espeak, or sapi5, or any synth that is provided as an nvda add-on. I already have in my head the way to do all of that it just needs quite a lot of time so I'm seeing how interested people might be. :)

I think that's very cool. If I follow correctly that'd give orca, yasr, and such, the chance to use any of the synths that NVDA can use. Not the only problem with linux a11y, but definitely solves a lot of issues for many.

@modulux @The Byte Bender Are you designing a wrapper replacing NVDA's synthdriver or does this require running full copy of NVDA under wine?

Is that NVDA for Linux? Or is it NVDA in wine running through speech-dispatcher for speech? Whatever it is, it's pretty awesome! I can't wait to see where it goes.

@storm it's on its way to being NVDA serving as an output module for speech-dispatcher so you can use NVDA's synth drivers. NVDA itself runs through wine and serves as the speech server only.

Oh that is very cool. I know a lot of people aren't willing to give up Eloquence, will it work with that addon? If so, you are going to make a lot of people very happy with this. ☺️
