I just updated my screen reader, #NVDA, to version 2024.1.

A few notes of interest:

All add-ons I consider essential work. Remote isn't updated yet but TeleNVDA is.
Unspoken, which I maintain, hasn't been updated but can be force enabled and works. Some time this week I'll issue a new release.
Of the non-essential add-ons that I'd like to have but haven't tried forcing, I'd highlight Instant Translate and Calibre.

I've also made a donation. I encourage others to contribute to NVDA, with code, translations, time or money, if their situation permits. NVDA doesn't update itself. It's not only my favourite screen reader, but it's essential to keep our needs in focus, maintain our independence, and avoid monopoly.

Thanks to NV Access for another release.

Probaré a activar Instant.

Estupendo, muchas gracias, actualizado!

Remote was updated a while ago, you should be on 2.6.4.
in reply to Tyler Spivey

Thanks, I don't know why some add-ons don't update in some of my NVDA copies, maybe something to do on how they were installed.
in reply to Bryan Smart

I didn't think that was still going actually. Enjoyed that some years back.

Haven't tried it in a while. I got bitter about it when Cam basically took it away from me, switched everything over to his sound library, and sabotaged the other cool things I was trying to do with it. Then, people were going to pay serious money for me to make a new version, using it to conduct research, and Google scared/threatened them all to back out. Another idea I got fucked out of. Glad he's not let it die, though.
in reply to Bryan Smart

I don't think I'd heard this before. I can't recall who brought the add-on to my attention, and I am just maintaining it in self-defence, so to speak. I want to keep using it. The only substantive contributions I made were related to some NVDA API changes. Other than that it's just a matter of keeping the manifest up to date.

just a note here. remote never stopped working for me here after the update.version 2.6.4.
in reply to Darren Duff

Yep, the issue for me was it didn't update to 2.6.4, but not sure why.
in reply to modulux

Remote isn't showing as updated for you in the store?
in reply to Nick Giannak III

It wasn't at the time. I have TeleNVDA anyway so I uninstalled it, so I can't really diagnose i at this point.
in reply to modulux

Yeah, that's odd. It's been on 2.6.4 for three months now. Worst case, go here.

Yes, if it's that long that's very peculiar. Thanks for the link.

Regarding the Unspoken NVDA add-on, it is now updated to reflect it has been tested with NVDA 2024.1.

in reply to modulux

in reply to José Manuel Delicado
