I spent 20 minutes writing an article on my personal website titled “The best tech journalists at eating hot dogs.” Every word is a lie. I claimed (without evidence) that competitive hot-dog-eating is a popular hobby among tech reporters and based my ranking on the 2026 South Dakota International Hot Dog Championship (which doesn’t exist). I ranked myself number one, obviously. Then I listed a few fake reporters and real journalists who gave me permission….Less than 24 hours later, the world’s leading chatbots were blabbering about my world-class hot dog skills. When I asked about the best hot-dog-eating tech journalists, Google parroted the gibberish from my website, both in the Gemini app and AI Overviews, the AI responses at the top of Google Search. ChatGPT did the same thing, though Claude, a chatbot made by the company Anthropic, wasn’t fooled.
Sometimes, the chatbots noted this might be a joke. I updated my article to say “this is not satire.” For a while after, the AIs seemed to take it more seriously.
These things are not trustworthy, and yet they are going to be widely trusted."

to be honest i am not well-informed enough to definitively judge the accuracy of this, but it seems wrong for 2 main reasons.
1. models dont train on the fly, typically, yet, so for models to behave as such in such a short period of time seems inaccurate and would require web search enabled and explicitly directed to disregard other search results.
2. people training these models know conflicting info is everywhere and the source of truth is prioritized in training algorithms.
Shall we have an algorithmic bullshit generator?
And pass around multiple copies of it, identical and with small changes, omissions and additions?

Re address bar issue, you can either press F6 (Windows shortcut) move between that and the webpage, use the obj Watcher add-on and query the address bar whenever you want, or something else I haven't thought of.
Re element inspection, I think all major browsers have this ability accessible to screen reader users. Otherwise, see if you can contact the developer of BrowserNav to see if it can be added as a feature.

This is a great article! A couple thoughts:
- reading control+c etc, try the clipspeak add-on
- Gemini, again there are several add-ons which likely help here.
- Report URL without moving, alt+d then escape brings you back, but we would consider an issue for this.
- Typing echo profile - again please write up an issue for this.
- NVDA going silent - if you can give steps which reliably reproduce this, please let us know (or write up an issue).

Reading PDF files, (NVDA reads as-is including errors, vs Jaws tries to smooth things as it goes). This is something which an argument could be made either way for (many people like having it highlight issues as it does now). It might be something which would be good for an add-on? Possibly could also do the same for malformed web code?

These languages are currently supported by RHVoice. For some of them only one voice is available. For others you may choose between multiple voices.rhvoice.org
Some users have problems recursively cloning this project. I propose to switch the URL of the submodule from "git:" to "https:"GitHub

Greetings. I would like to submit a request regarding future NVDA updates.
Currently, there is an issue where keyboard shortcuts remain in the gestures.ini file even after an add-on has been uninstalled. This often leads to input conflicts with other add-ons installed later.
Could you please implement a mechanism to ensure that all associated shortcut entries are automatically removed from the gestures.ini file during the uninstallation process?

Does anyone have a copy of the Minute Marker tape produced by Brayton and Sons Productions in the early 90's? It was a twenty-minute timer on a tape. There were different drum sounds for fifteen, thirty, and forty-five seconds past each minute, then each minute had claps counting the minutes. One side had a tick every second along with all the other sounds, the other side omitted the ticks. I never had or even saw a copy of the tape, all I ever heard was a promo for it he put in Playback Magazine, audio attached.

If you want a bunch of random noise and chaos in your life, there's a silly thing I put together, called FX Radio.
It's a box running Liquidsoap that mixes several audio players going through a huge library of sound effects, production libraries, and other odd things.
Don't expect anything to make sense. If it does, it's purely coincidental.
This is running on the same machine that hosts @NoiseBox, which throws a random sound at the fediverse once an hour, at a random minute each hour.
Fun fact:
This is running on a shelf under my mom's desk. While she knows the box is there, she doesn't know what it does. So, it's fun just for that reason.

Basically, it's always three sounds, pulled completely at random, no rhyme or reason, plus a couple of other things. Random audio description things from UK TV shows and musical thingies every few minutes, for example.
I put my mouse in the microwave !!
Seriously. I have a bluetooth mouse that wouldn't enter pairing mode. It was connecting to *something*... maybe a smart switch or whatever. This cheap mouse has no way to enter pairing mode if it's connected to something.
So anyway, a microwave oven is a faraday cage. I turned the mouse on, tossed it in, shut the door and waited. It entered pairing mode quickly, and boom, connected to my tablet.
A+++ life hack by yours truly. Just don't start the nuker or magic smoke will come out 😆

Seeking recommendations for a reliable, accessible platform to host a support/discussion email list/listserv/snapshot of the 90's with around 1000 members. We're with GroupsIO right now but I'm tired of their in-browser inaccessibility. Cheap would be brilliant as my group doesn't directly make money, can pay something for solid service, accessibility and responsive support though.
I probably don't fancy self-hosting this much traffic.

@diffrentcolours I use MailmanLists for the mailing lists of the social groups I organise. The pricing goes up as your list grows, but 2,000 members is less than 5 EUR/month (less if you pay annually). Haven't had any problems with deliverability or support.
