In 2024, we saw 296 internet shutdowns across 54 countries, with 47 still ongoing into 2025. #India alone imposed 84 shutdowns. Networks are being cut in conflicts from #Gaza to #Nepal, while #Russia has blocked 197 VPNs 🛑 and encrypted apps are under threat. Major platforms collect our metadata and use it to train opaque AI systems.
In world political news that went under the radar over the past few days: the government of #Nepal has been overthrown by youths following a governmental move to block social media, and accusations of corruption.
A new PM was elected over #Discord, and has been accepted by the military. They aim to hold elections within 6 months.
I repeat:
THEY ELECTED A NEW GOVERNMENT
OVER
DISCORD.
And no second ammendment was needed to rise up against against tyranny.

Bhaktapur just always throws a party when we hit town! Processions of drums and dancing moving through the streets today, right as we arrived at the palace square.
Such joyful folks. Newari is the main ethnic group in this part of Kathmandu Valley.

Spent a lot of time today talking to monks, and locals making merit at the temples. One of the things that makes Nepal such a great destination for photographers is that people will stop you and ask to have their photo taken.
