Garden joys: my ladybug is back, we chatted! She didn’t have a lot to say. The yellow flower is a real stunner! No idea what it’s called, let’s name it Yellow Flower.

The cardoon is once again 8 feet high and the bees are all over it like jam on toast (that means our hummingbird must be around here somewhere). I walk carefully around the bumblebarrons but they’re so busy rooting around in the big purple thistles that I’m not sure they even register my presence.

At 8:30 p.m., the automatic bed irrigation system turns on. At 8:40 p.m., a blackbird flies in with clockwork precision and eats the earthworms that have crawled to the surface of the damp soil.
