Ok so calling for the opinion of my fellow home server enthusiasts here, I want to: At minimum host Miniflux, PiHole and Joplin Server with docker or similar system. That are the essentials. If possible, I'm also interested in: GitTea, Home Assistant and and a Media Server for my Audio books. I did a lot of research today, and while a Raspberry Pi seems very suitable for most of that, especially when it comes to Home Assistant I feel like people tend to get a mini PC and co. I've done further research and am going to try out Proxmox in order to see whether that's something I could imagine managing my stuff on a mini PC with, so I could have a VM running Home Assistant OS for example. A mini PC I would consider for example is the Beelink MINI-S12 Pro. I'd greatly appreciate any opinions, about software to make managing easier, the hardware and so on.
I just discovered the amazing Evertop project by @cobble2stone @ericjenott! Evertop is a portable PC that emulates an IBM XT with an 80186 processor and 1MB RAM, running DOS, Minix, and other old 1980s operating systems, including Windows up to version 3.0. Powered by a low-power microcontroller and an e-ink display, it can run for hundreds or even thousands of hours on a single charge, thanks to its built-in solar panel and extreme power-saving measures. It's loaded with built-in peripherals like a keyboard, PS/2 ports, graphics support, audio output, serial ports, USB, Ethernet, WiFi, and LoRA radio. Charging options include a solar panel, DC input, and micro USB. It features a detachable keyboard, optional hibernate, and power shutoff. Storage is via SD card, and it's powered by an Espressif ESP32 microcontroller. Compatibility includes almost all IBM PC/XT compatible DOS software from the 1980s and early 90s. There's also a minimal version, "Evertop Min," which reduces weight and cost by removing some features. I'd love to see a model with a Raspberry Pi Zero for more productivity-focused tasks. Take for example these examples of a #PinebookPro (rk3399 / v4l2 stateless) playing 4k content or the #RaspberryPi 4b (v4l2 stateful / m2m) playing 1080p@60fps (the limit of the hardware decoder) on a 2560x1440 screen. My videos probably don't fully capture the effect, but especially in the later case the difference is pretty visible). This is using the gtk video player demo with some extra patches and #gstreamer.
These examples share similar form factors and/or specs to various RPi models, but their vendors offer many other options as well. What other recommendations do folks have?

Raspberry Pi is really proud of hiring "a policeman & it's going really great" who "was a surveillance officer for 15 years" and built covert surveillance equipment. RPi dismisses the very thing they're so proud of as "he built lightsabers [as toys]. Chill."). Dear reader, it must be remarked that the concern is not his rad lightsaber toys (which, to be clear, are rad). The concern is that he's got experience in surveillance equipment, and the company is proud to have hired him for it, and proudly blocking everyone who expresses the slightest concern about it instead of being even remotely willing to listen and understand why people are skeeved out, even people who aren't on the ACAB train and are gently voicing concerns with a surveillance cop potentially having the keys to their hardware/software.
This is not the behavior of a company that's concerned about privacy, security, trust, or autonomy, and I don't think this company can or should be trusted to remain federated with instances that want to be welcoming to marginalized people or anti-authoritarians.
Really hate to say it, because I've used and loved RPis for several years now, but if nothing else, please use a different SBC from now on. There are many options out there that aren't so eager to insult you for having concerns about security.

Raspberry Pi, jak i Steam Deck to przykłady urządzeń, na których jesteśmy dziś w stanie upchnąć i schować do plecaka całe biblioteki tytułów ze sprzętów naszej młodości. Dla osoby bardzo sentymentalnej (jaką jestem), prezerwacja dzieł powstałych w tamtych czasach to rzecz doprawdy wspaniała ❤️
