Elites downplay the effectiveness of violent resistance throughout history because they know violence is actually effective as a form of resistance.

When I was a child and learning about the Suffragettes in secondary school, their use of violence was touched upon but it was drummed into us that their use of violence was actually very bad and the important thing was their peaceful protesting.

The flotilla is on the High Seas and not in Israel’s 12 mile territorial sea. Israel has no jurisdiction.

An attack by a state military warship on a vessel on the High Seas is an attack on the flag state of the vessel attacked.

The possession of vessels and the abduction of crews at sea can be pursued as a crime in domestic jurisdictions and is not just a crime under international law.

Not sure y'all, I'm slowly losing my mind over Windows. This is what I've become. The reviewer who 20 years ago was there writing about Longhorn, has lost his marbles. Yup. This is how it ends, folks. I lose my mind and sanity over Microsoft Windows, forever tortured by what I've lost since then. Lost all hope, forever wandering the hallowed halls of the world, asking, "has this build fixed Explorer yet?" And so the day of me primary-booting Linux draws nearer. I'm becoming unhinged.

ahaha love this little dialog. Go suck it Microsoft. "Page not available dialog Page not available
The page you are trying to access has no supported features and is not available." (Core isolation settings) I ripped out the entire Security center and control panel. If someone can get me the Security Center from Windows XP back onto my Windows 10, I'll reconsider it, for now all that cruft is junk to me. I don't want a hyperviser runnning just so it can isolate it into its own namespace. Nope. Not taking the performance hit of that.

Your conclusion, "The real reason not to use GenAI", seems at odds with your statement "I’m not a hater." Shouldn't your reasons for not using GenAI lead you to advocate that we don't even use it for coding, even in the areas where it'll probably work? I guess Those reasons for not using GenAI sound to me like reasons to fight the prediction and try to make it not come true.

I know things are tough for most people, so don't worry if you can't chip in right now.

A good friend of mine could use your support.

@SilverEagle has been developing free and open source software for a heck of a long time. If you've ever used Internet Radio before, there's a damn good chance you've used AzuraCast.

They have a Ko-Fi goal of $2500. If any of you can chip in even $3 to help them, it is difficult to overstate the immense burden you'll be alleviating.

I've tossed in $100 to get this started. Can we get them to their goal?

There’s a TV ad from Philadelphia* tourism where Canadian citizens who live and work there are imploring their fellow Canadians to visit the city. It is so tone deaf to the moment.

*I saw it a couple days ago and may be misremembering the city. If you can confirm which city it actually is before I take the time to look it up, feel free to dunk and boycott.

ETA: I remembered correctly! Maybe don't go to Philadelphia, fellow Canadians.

“We’re going to keep being creative about our outreach to the Canadian audience,” said Caren.

I mean, howsabout being creative about Stopping The Fascist Regime in Your Country! It's your border agency causing problems for Canadian travellers. It's your president making threatening noises about Canadian sovereignty. Sort your shit out, mates. Stop acting like Canadians just arbitrarily decided to stop visiting the States.

i'm re-reading "Homage to Catalonia" and it's good, but i'm struck by how fucking condescending the British are towards the Spanish. Orwell will write stuff like "for once, the Spanish were able to organize something" buddy you're experiencing a country **in the middle of a civil war** maybe your impressions of What The Spanish Are Like are not actually universal cultural traits!

We could start using systematic binary prefixes, akin to systematic element names, for those that don’t already have an officially assigned name?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/System…

So 2^128 bytes
= 2^8 x 2^120 bytes
= 256 x 1024^12 bytes
= 256 unbi-bibytes (12 = un bi)

Seems quite compact actually.

And could also extend to systematic SI prefixes for power-of-1000 magnitude numbers?

Fifteen ships have passed the illegal "Restriction zone 2" set by the Israeli occupation forces, sailing towards #Gaza, as the shameless soldiers of the genocidal State are intercepting humanitarian vessels of the Flotilla...

Across Europe, people are protesting and chanting to push their elite politicians to intervene in favour of the humanitarian aid.

Good morning... The #Mikeno vessel has reached the territorial waters of #Gaza and seems to have stopped merely minutes before it could be visible from the coast...

GPS position comms depend on internet of AIS (digital VHF), but both seem to be disabled...

It's one of two vessels to have reached the "R1" restriction zone imposed by the occupation forces.

I have to say, I'm fairly impressed by Openai's codex, both the CLI agent and their new gpt-5-codex model. Definitely my new agentic AI tool of choice.

It's the opposite of Claude Code in that it's extremely terse where Claude code is verbose. For example, I much prefer Claude's output for commit messages, as Codex will almost always produce one-liners unless very heavily prompted to do otherwise.

@NVAccess Hey guys, I'll follow this up with an issue, but wondered if you'd seen this behavior. I use WSL a lot, and it throws lots and lots of text into that window. To nav it correctly, I have to be in obj mode in terminal. For some reason, I can't determine when it happens, speech stops and sometimes I know it's partially crashed but sometimes I get the NVDA start sound only when I hit the NVDAS key. Assuming it's a windows terminal problem, but I sure with it was more stable. Can't remember how to set it in Debug move but I don't think it's actually dropping an error, but on e never knows does one. How do I turn that weirdo option on?
in reply to Noel Romey

Sounds like an issue worth reporting - thank you! Re turning debug logging on:

1) Press NVDA+control+g to open NVDA's general settings.
2) Tab to "Log Level"
3) Down arrow to "Debug".
Ok and save settings (I recommend restarting with add-ons disabled, recreating the issue then grabbing the log - that way it's not cluttered with anything else you were doing etc. And we'll need a log with add-ons disabled just to rule out any interference from add-ons.
