Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was convicted of embezzling $539 million in state funds.
Razak, already facing years in jail for an earlier conviction, was part of a complex scandal involving the Malaysian financier Jho Low, who allegedly stole $4.5 billion from a state-owned development company and used the cash to, among other things, fund the Oscar-nominated movie The Wolf of Wall Street.

Really cool when we can find these bits of documentation of the eureka! I still want to see one! I briefly saw one in around 1993, but couldn't understand a word of what it was saying!
@KaraLG84 I briefly encountered a disk for it once (while borrowing a machine at what was then the Association for the Blind), but I'd certainly never heard the colour identifier in action

@KaraLG84 I had their talking compass. At least I'm pretty sure it was that one. It had an English/Spanish switch on it, and took one type N battery, I think.
Well and there you have it. Christmas is officially over. And honestly? It was a total flop: I've been better off physically last year, even though I did a lot of sports this year I feel like I just don't have energy, am not even demotivated, but just, tired and don't get things done. The vibe wasn't there at all. If you asked me a month ago I would've felled it, and I do not know why that is. I hope 2026 brings a better year overall, despite the name. But now with the wining out of the way, I hope yall had a good, or fine enough christmas.

I'm still sometimes mad that sighted users are up to 8K monitors, or lower-resolution screens with insane refresh rates. Color accuracy is amazing. Bloom isn't a problem as dimming zone counts increase and OLED drops in price. There are resolutions, widths, inputs, and other features for almost any situation. Meanwhile, braille displays still cost thousands, and we're celebrating because we can kind of feel rough line drawings, on devices that still use mechanical pins. I get it, but still...
It seems like a big part of the problem is that huge brands haven't put any resources into braille. Samsung, LG, Hisense, and others keep pushing visual display technology forward--we have screens that can literally fold in half! Meanwhile, braille is still stuck using the resources of tiny companies to move forward. What would happen if Apple, or Microsoft, or Samsung threw a billion dollars and a team of genius scientists and engineers at braille display technology?

so after being bedridden for 16months due to a hernia, I've finally got my surgery! now I'm bedridden for recovery, which is at least a great improvement. Tools are being developed to fix SSH Agent forwarding so when you ssh to a server and attach to a tmux session your agent forwarding still works. But this requires you have this custom tool on every server, available on every OS/distro, etc.
No matter what I do, I can't get a PHP dev container to work right. It seems to connect, and the terminal works, but f12 on an object type doesn't go to the class definition how it should. My plan was to use a PHP dev container for local PHP projects, since I can't get PHP to work natively on Windows. Or, I'd attach right to the container the project itself creates. But I've been at this all day with nothing to show for it except a lot of ChatGPT usage. Come on, end of the week!
Christmas Dash 1.1.1 is out. This is a patch update with some helpful additions. Occupants and cookies no longer spawn in places you cannot access. This especially applies to cookies since they used to spawn in walls. Pressing O now tells you how many occupants are in the house, but this is only if you are inside. Small and medium snowballs have been improved. Small now stuns for 2 seconds instead of 1.5, and medium stuns for 4 instead of 3.
Please share what you got for Christmas because I feel deprived of information. I got some Mrs. Cavanaugh’s dark chocolate orange creams that I haven’t tried yet, and a bunch of gifts from the neighbors, including a bag of bite-size candy bars, a scarf, lotion, and a small round tin of cookies. And some kind of a strange wallet/purse thing. Also a six pack of fuzzy socks from the boyfriend to replace the ones I lost.
A new electric toothbrush, switch 2 Pro Controller, an RC car, lots and lots of chocolate, pants, socks, a new Lecreuset mug, nice smelly stuff, £30 amazon voucher, and a t-shirt... I think that's most of it haha.
For those who haven't got the backstory here, a GenAI company basically pre-ordered 40% of the world's RAM to lock out competitors... then Micron, who make their profits by making RAM, decided to also stop making RAM to chase GenAI fad.
So now PCs and servers are basically unaffordable. Nobody is quite sure what will happen.
Spent a few days with the new #whatsApp UI on Windows. So far, the experience is not as bad as it could be, but it's far from good as well:
- The time this Ui takes to load is painfully long. Understandable given essentially a whole entire browser is being spun up but that is a regression. - Focus often doesn't stay where it's meant to when you leave and then return to the window. This worked fine in the previous version,thus a regression. - Something in the underlying browser wrapper REALLY doesn't play nice with NVDA, often failing to properly focus or provide meaningful accessibility properties leading to an "unknown unknown unknown" reading. Not sure to what degree the Meta folks have control over this but if you're going to use third party wrappers you take on the responsibility of those wrappers malfunctioning and thus, regression. - Resource usage has gone way up, I consider that a regression. #accessibility
meal prep Sunday. I don’t really do that as much since I work at home more and can cook. “From scratch” is subjective. I’ll take it to mean there is significant effort involved. I “cook” more often if you include low effort foods like sandwiches, or frozen items for the oven.
For anyone using Airpods Pro 2 or Airpods Pro 3 as OTC hearing aids: I'm trying to figure out how to take another hearing test. Mine is from October of last year, and my hearing has changed since then. My right ear is a little better than it was, and my left is possibly a bit worse. I don't have a current audiogram. I just want to take the hearing test again, and use the settings from the new test, but can't find an obvious way to do that.
I'm probably reaching the limit of what these can do for me, but I want to give it a try before investing in something expensive that will be inevitably annoying and/or disappointing, even if it turns out to be useful.
@hallen Well, the test isn't specific to the device. I have two pair of AirPods Pro two. When I got the second pair, those settings just applied themselves. So I would have to reset something somewhere else.

You sure you're using hearing aid mode and not the normal headphone accommodations? For me, the hearing aid settings are specific to the pair of AirPods I'm using, and have to be enabled for each one. There's a button in the info screen for my AirPods called "Hearing Assistance".
Haven't tried this, and unfortunately, I am headed out the door soon so can't play with it. I wonder if you went into settings and forgot your AirPods if you could retake the test.
@Lisasali Don't think so, but I think I figured it out with the help of someone else here. I just haven't tried it yet, because last night, I had a sudden loss of basically most things in my left ear, and taking that test now would not be a good idea. So I will try that later.
