I was chatting with a Black friend of Jamaican heritage. She was appalled that a Nigerian she'd met knew next to nothing about slavery.
It's Black history! she said.
It's *your* history, I explained.
For Africans that sad story ended when the ships left the shore. Our schools teach us about the impact of that devastation, not what happened on the other coast.
Black history is not one thing. It's not MLK.
It's also Songhai and Benin. Which they don't teach here

I'm not saying that the story of slavery is not important. Personally I've done my best to learn about it; mostly because I now live in a country shaped by it.
But there is so much human history. I have sympathy for people who have learned one bit of it, but not the other.
(Was thinking about this because I saw an exchange where someone was being upbraided for not knowing about American racism - even though they weren't American or Black.)

I'm curious which of you has the largest Bastille infrastructure. Is anyone brave enough to share a screenshot of `bastille list` with a contender for highest number of jails?
I've just pushed Tor integration in Libervia (first step of the NLnet metadata reduction and serverless grant).
nlnet.nl/project/ServerlessXMP…
This has been done thanks to the work of @meejah on `txtorcon` and of course of @torproject and the support of @nlnet and @NGIZero .
A thought for Lunar who is mentioned in the documentation of txtorcon (for doing the Debian package) and who passed away last year.

I'm going to try and stop watching short-form content online.
I gave up watching tiktok a number of months ago, and now it's time for Reels and YouTube Shorts to go as well.
I have a theory that they trigger the same areas of the brain that gambling lights up.. and it's not so much about the watching, but about swiping to see if you ✨win✨ by finding something fun. I noticed that I'd be watching something I was enjoying and just swipe anyways to see if the next clip was ✨better✨, which feels like classic gambling behaviours.

Modular thingies are cool when they work right.
I just configured a new Ubiquiti wireless access point... well, actually an old one that was taken out of service last year when I wasn't home to fix broken things. It was easier to replace it than to walk someone through getting this one working again because of how it was mounted and such.
Anyway, adopted it to the controller, and devices automatically roamed to it. Then when I upgraded the firmware, those devices roamed back to where they were, then back again when it came back online. Nothing actually dropped for long enough to cause a noticeable problem.
Now I need to actually install this AP where it's meant to go, re-replacing the one it originally replaced. LOL!
What sins have we committed as a nation that Nigel Ng is our food ambassador? And telling Yankees that our burger Ramly comes with no vegetables?? Did we occupy a territory?? Did we loot a temple??? Did we do a secret assassination on a third world resistance leader???
Unsurprisingly #slop is Webster word of 2025.

My way of rebelling against techbros and autocrats:
December 2024: quit all Big Tech platforms and start #selfhosting essential services
December 2025: write guides for newbies about how to self-host
I'm also in discussion with a blogger I admire to start a podcast about tech... where we'll focus on solutions (instead of problems)... aiming to inspire others to join in...
It's been a really heavy year but these little acts of rebellion give me hope ✨

Had to run an errand today that involved navigating what I consider to be one of the worst intersections in the city - it's between two shopping areas and just slow and clogged and everyone is always grumpy.
Two people were standing OUT IN THE RAIN, making giant bubbles that would float into the intersection and interact with everyone. It was total magic.

Apparently it will come with 32 GB RAM and two Thunderbolt ports, which seems promising. But there's a huge difference between minimum hardware and optimal hardware now, so it would be good to know which side Humanware is closest to.
@jackf723 @jscholes And afaik the more radios you have, the more certification pain you get from all the countries you're trying to sell to.
AT is one of the worst markets to be in from that perspective, since you're mostly selling to individuals, you don't have high volume to spread the costs over, and your customers are extremely geographically diverse.
Yeah, at this point I'm just resigned to using an Android phone as a hotspot or whatever. Maybe the thing that will push me to buy an ARM laptop will be cellular. Kind of a shame we're not at the point where Humanware could just use one of those.
