Fascinating story: politico.com/news/2023/03/07/p…

At first the police just wanted two hours of footage from this guy's doorbell Ring cam.

"It was just the beginning.

They asked for more footage, now from the entire day’s worth of records. And a week later, Larkin received a notice from Ring itself: The company had received a warrant, signed by a local judge. The notice informed him it was obligated to send footage from more than 20 cameras — whether or not Larkin was willing to share it himself."

Major win for encryption.

Have you seen that lovely new #keyoxide app developed by @Berker yet? Available on @fdroidorg and the other app stores, have a look here mobile.keyoxide.org for the download links!

#AppCinderella: I've just checked "Photo EXIF Toolkit" (2017; apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/a…). On Android 10 it simply crashes (reproducibly) when trying to open an image (while in background trying to access maps.googleapis.com). Can someone confirm this on other Android versions? Functionality (as advertised) sounds pretty useful, but if it doesn't work the description does not help 🙈

@shroob I did a quick check and did not see any similar apps in the repos of F-Droid or mine – but I know several apps including the features (e.g. Aves, which I use myself). Maybe I'll send the APK through a security scan as well to see if there are some issues or not before I draw a final conclusion (unless some more reports come in saying "drop it, here are the alternatives". I like small tools concentrating on specific tasks 😉 But source gone and trackers in is no good combination indeed.

#AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today with 18 updated and 2 added apps:

* swob: communicate with online services using SMS messaging
* Paperless Mobile: an (almost) fully fledged mobile Paperless client

Enjoy your #free #Android #apps with #FDroid and the #IzzySoftRepo :awesome:

Remember the Microsoft Office macro hardening changes for internet documents? I just got it on my corp laptop as it's in O365 semi-annual channel now.

THANK YOU to those at MS who got this over the line, they know who they are. Single biggest change in cybersecurity industry in a decade, IMHO. Yes, attackers have and will evolve - but they should be.

This one cost lots of people political capital, but it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Just saw this video shared by a friend on that other site, it appears someone is working on adding screen reader support to the first Diablo. We live in some very exciting times indeed. youtube.com/watch?v=SdSjSZzhNB…

yes. github.com/matrix-org/synapse/… is the obvious one; also extending servers to block CS API conns from IPs described in a given MSC2313 style blocklist too. Another nice extension would be to let room admins block a user’s IP or CIDR without exposing what their IP actually is (ignoring that you could figure it out by correlating with other known IPs). eg “block alice’s /32” or “block alice’s /24” or even “block alice’s AS” without revealing her IP
