@alexhall Personally, I use it to store information about what I'm working on (research, tips and tricks, discoveries..etc) in a structured format using pages, intra-page links, tables..etc. And it is stored on my OneDrive, so I can read it on the go.
Very nice! It might be good to add some kind of interface that stops the server when you're done or re-open the wiki after you've closed it, otherwise it appears to just live in the background and open multiple instances if you open the executable again (at least in Windows).

Got gifted a chilli growing kit years ago, and only managed to get it properly planted recently. It took a bit to get going, and at first we thought the seeds had spoiled; but now we’re finally getting a steady supply of 70-80k scoville chillies without having to hunt them down in shops
@scottishwildcat @hbons these are Apache chilli peppers, so: sun, and not watered a lot. They are also self-pollinating, so you need to brush the flowers when they open up. This plant has lasted two seasons, and it's very low maintenance, which is great because I can kill anything that is green either by obsessing on it too much, or by forgetting it exists the second I leave the room.
This former professional chili farmer/breeder is proud of you guys. If you ever get inspired and have a sunny window or can move a plant in and out for freezing weather, try one of the C. pubescens varieties. These are very hot, high altitude varieties that produce all year and like coastal environments. Here in the PNW they can produce all winter if they don't freeze. They produce fruit in cooler weather than C. annum.
They are colloquially known as "manzano" or "rocoto" and you'll know you've gotten the right thing if the seeds are black. Cuttings from your local chilihead will work too.
Unless I'm misunderstanding the blog post, it sounds like it's a foregone conclusion that this won't be adopted by Mutter or KWin? If that's correct, then why is that? Is there a schism between those big desktop environments on the one hand, and more niche Wayland compositors on the other?
@matt There is a bit of a schism between people who want Wayland protocols for window management and some of the other things that we used to have with X11 and the people who want those things done through software libraries or otherwise out-of-band.
But I don't think anyone's really stubborn about it. I think that if we just make really good software that uses this protocol, they'll give in.
@matt Honestly I am not so sure. **The** de-facto out-of-band mechanism, that is widely supported, is xdg-desktop-portal. And it has some pretty nice benefits, namely working just the same on X11 desktops (as long as they have some relevance) and built-in permission management.
Something which has always been an issue with wayland, given how securing privileged protocols isn't standardized and also not necessarily even possible (outside of sandboxes + security-context of course). As a result COSMIC will most likely not advertise these protocols to other apps (at least by default), while still heavily relying on it internally.
I view these kind of protocols as compatibility-layers between compositors and shell-components. I still hope eventually you will be able to just run the whole COSMIC DE with niri or sway for example, or exchange them for cosmic-comp in your existing home-grown setup and it will mostly work apart from some very DE-specific protocols/functionalities.
@swick I'm taking the liberty of removing a few people from the mentions, in case they don't want to keep watching this subthread. I feel I should do this because I started this subthread. I'm OK with staying on the thread myself, unless you think it would be better to remove me since I'm a relative outsider to the space (I'm working on a protocol extension for accessibility).
I hope this can be resolved peacefully so all the compositor developers can work together on common goals.

@YaLTeR @matt without a proper sandbox one can always hack around it if one wants to, but realistically you can restrict the globals to whatever you want and deter people from using it. i just believe that some people are not honest and want to push wayland protocols onto clients.
@matt in niri I only hide these protocols from security-context clients (i.e. Flatpaks). If I understand correctly, this is about as good as you can do?
@matt Yeah I hate, that it is waaay to easy to override PATH, LD_PRELOAD/LIBRARY_PATH, etc and protecting against that is annoyingly difficult.
We never put a socket with these protocols on the filesystem, but that doesn’t mean much, when you don’t know what you are executing. And running the shell-components without the users environment has the potential to break a lot of valid use-cases unfortunately…
@bagder a very belated reply to your 'Rust in curl' talk from curl-up ... I think we should deprecate hyper support ... if not mainly in that rust people just use plain ole curl rust bindings crates.io/search?q=curl .... even rust crate tool uses it. We could investigate if there is anything we can do to make those bindings work better.

yes, it is certainly in line for deprecation. The only reason we have not pushed for that further just yet is that ISRG said they might have an engineer "soon" to work on it. It now seems that maybe was incorrect.
