News/death
The Charlie Kirk shooting is going to overshadow Russia’s drone incursion in Poland. Makes me a bit sad. That's huge news. Huge. Changes a lot with the war in Ukraine and what's going to happen. I'm not sure. I'm worried.
Wow. At the time, it was a shooting. Now, it's a death. How horrible. What a horrible day. I don't care whether he was a conservative. By all accounts this man felt like a decent debater from what I heard, even if his ideas were divisive to some, that's no reason to go around killing him. Jeesh, people lost all care and empathy today, they just think, "oh, this guy says hateful stuff, he deserves to die!" Well nobody does. Life is a treasure and any shooting without self-defense justifications is senseless. Gosh. So distracted from work stuff, must get back to it for another hour.

Gosh darn it I'm really debating on whether I will regret having gone with Jet Black Watch series 10. But then again, Jet Black is more than just a visual thing, it's also very tactile with how smooth it feels and more premium. The sides of the watch feel just as the glass does. Then again, it's a fingerprint magnet. Along with micro-scratches and scuffs, which does worry me. Hmm. What a 3rd-world problem, gosh. I hate it.

@alexhall So revolutionary! What I find funny is, until now, I never understood why Apple used the polycarbonate, smooth shiny plastic on their older Macbooks. Like the first ones. Powerbooks too I think maybe. Now I do. At the time to me it felt like, "oh, this is too glossy, it's just being premium for premium's sake, bah who wants that." But now with the watch I find it funny that this opinion for me has changed, not sure. Very interesting. Perhaps even then they were just trying to make the computer be as glossy as the screen is.

@ppatel @alexhall ah yeah, those are titanium though I thought? Another beast entirely :) Far more durable probably. Jet Black was an aluminum-only finish introduced with the Apple Watch Series 10, not sure if they're now extending it to Ultra 3 (probably?). It doesn't really change what can scratch the aluminum itself, but because it's smooth and glossy smaller micro-scratches especially under light will be visible to sighted folks. From what I've also read though it's not as though the material types that scratch it really changes, hardness on it remains quite the same as any other s10 color type. So not sure. I got a vinyl glossy protector for it, a bumper case for a watch (for me) would turn it into a toy-feeling thing, since those had these chunky plastic bezels, so perhaps a vinyl skin works better.

Apple's Assault on Standards: Alex Russell dives deep into Apple's decade of harm and sabotage of the web and web standards.

It's that time of year again: time to support @owa's call to end secret vetoes of Interop proposals. Web developers should at least know *who* is pushing cuts to the web's most effective "TODO" list, if not why. Show your support (politely) here:

I just managed to get Oracle VirtualBox with KVM patches working as a Flatpak! Honestly kinda crazy that this can even be done

well I tried to use Orion browser again as my default and while I love so many things it does, it has such weird WEIRD bugs

Like suddenly you can't click into and activate any text input areas, copy+paste shortcuts even in the browser address bar don't work and provides that "ding" noise MacOS emits when there's some invalid input

Thank you everyone who made me enjoy this year's #smashingconf immensely. I had a wonderful time! ❤️

"Is Putin in the room with us just now?" - asked a pro-Russian Polish MEP on Twitter today in one of the discussions related to Russian influence in Europe .

She deleted this post as the context has changed due to Russian drone attack on Poland. But if you want to imagine how would your room look like if Putin tried to be there with you, there are some pictures:

I already have enough issues with my iPhone slipping between the driver's seat in the car and the console gap because it always slides out of my shorts pocket somehow if I forget to take it out before I sit down

Now I'm walking around the house looking at every crack and crevice wondering how many iPhone Airs are going to get lost in there, forever unretrievable...

@dvl I think the engineering is impressive but is it necessary for a phone? I'd rather see super thin electronics be the norm for other things.

Make an even thinner iMac

Use that tech to make... I don't know, just some computer embedded somewhere thinner. The digital dashboard on your car? I'm sure they'd appreciate if there was less room needed behind the screen.
