> In contrast, if you infuse saline down an occluded vessel, you push the blood through the myocardial vasculature and replace it with fluid containing no oxygen. That is a recipe for cardiac arrest because the myocardium is very sensitive to short periods of ischaemia. I like all cardiologists have done it occasionally inadvertently and caused ventricular fibrillation (fortunately always successfully defibrillated in my patients).

I feel better about crashing production now

@NVAccess I would like to suggest including Paperback as one of the recommended accessible eBook readers in an upcoming In-Process issue. It would be a great option for users who want to read NVDA’s training and help materials, as well as other text content.
Without exaggeration, Paperback is currently the most accessible and user-friendly book reader available for screen reader users.

People who want to make the web accessible need to understand the many different ways that people with disabilities use the web. This W3C resource offers a good introduction to how disabled people navigate the web, and barriers they commonly encounter.

I'm building a new PC (for work, productivity and some gaming) and this is my current configuration:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
- CPU cooler: Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI
- GPU: SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GAMING OC 16G
- Memory: Kingston FURY 64GB KIT DDR5 6000MHz CL36 Beast EXPO
- SSD: WD_BLACK SN7100 2TB
- Case: Be quiet! PURE BASE 501 Airflow Window Black
- Power supply: Be quiet! PURE POWER 13 M 750W

Opinions? I haven't built a PC in the last 10 years, so I would appreciate advice from more experienced PC builders.

According to Nevada's report into its recent ransomware attack, a state employee "searched Google for a system administration tool to download and was instead shown a malicious advertisement that led to a fraudulent website impersonating the legitimate project."

Yeah, that happens a lot! An ad-blocker is one of your top security and privacy defenses online. If you work in an enterprise org, consider rolling out an ad-blocker to your company network!

FFmpeg to Google Fund Us or Stop Sending Bugs: thenewstack.io/ffmpeg-to-googl… by @sjvn

The clash between small volunteer-driven, open-source projects, such as FFmpeg & the billion-dollar companies built on their work, which demand rapid security patches, is heating up.

Finally, got my mom Bitwarden Premium vault, inclluded her into my back ups and about to connect as emergency contacts. This was really necessery. She's been using apple keychain before and basically all the passwords where alerting, beeing inmlcuded in a breach or reused. And when already changing, why not directly save to a proper PW Manager not Apple ID which could theoretically log you out as well and is just not made for that kind of stuff?
in reply to Andrew Hodgson

@andrew I was considering it for a while but I don't think we're going to get more at this point, I assume all my other family members use apple keychain as well but, without wanting to sound disrespectful or anything, I think they're capable of managing their stuff a bit better, including recovery options etc. I just want to be sure nothing happens with the stuff of my mom, as she's just not more techy than she needs to be, which is fine, but also brings risks in 2025 where reusing the same 7 letter password without 2FA might be a bit, uh...

As a Linux user starved for accessible document/ebook-reading options, I've been envious of all the Paperback chatter I've seen recently. So I threw making a Linux port at Claude Code with superpowers. Here's what it came up with so far, for anyone who uses Flatpak: nextcloud.thewordnerd.info/s/2…

flatpak install --user paperback.flatpak Haven't verified everything yet but I'm able to open a book, read it accessibly, close the book, re-open the application without specifying the book, and appear where I left off. Continuous read/paging also seems to work under Orca. You might need to set a universal ACCESSIBILITY_ENABLED=1 environment variable override for all flatpaks, though I haven't explicitly tested without that.

PR including Nix packaging/development setup incoming soonish once I've looked over everything, as one should with these sorts of things. Still though, works way better than ebook-convert <whatever> .txt, opening in gnome-text-editor, and suffering.

You're welcome, thanks for your work. I'll check the diff today, but you can check out github.com/ndarilek/paperback/… in the meantime. I'll likely be squashing more commits onto that branch today if I spot any fun Claudeisms in the patch, as sometimes happens.

One thing I've noticed not working are hotkeys in the text area''specifically tested [ and ]. Both just give a terminal bell and do nothing. I know WX uses GTK3 on Linux and suspect it's using something else that's actually accessible on Windows, and there's a difference between how read-only textareas in GTK handle being typed in. Fortunately the menu items work, but we might need to add ctrl or similar to these and other hotkeys under Linux.

Also, the TOC tree is inaccessible, again likely due to GTK (though GTK tree views certainly work fine.) So it isn't a perfect port, but even so it's good to finally have something like QRead under Linux.

It's not that new actually and it will get better soon, since they are working on those and many things. Next year SimpleX Chat will be far more better and specially since they are working on communites, channels and more.

I will see about replicating this setup with Snapcast next weekend to compare. I'm sure Snapcast is more polished, but it's less focused on working over unreliable networks. Not that I have to deal with any unreliable networks, it's just that Roc seemed more interesting in that aspect as there are some other projects I might be able to leverage it for so it was worth exploring anyway

I guess I should post a link to the recording of my #DENOG17 talk, in case anyone needs a downer with the poor state of #IPv6 multihoming 😅 media.ccc.de/v/denog17-78841-i…
