Hmm. So, To balance clarity and accent reduction, I'll set default stress modifications to (1.25, 1.07), as suggested by Gemini, with some exceptions. English might go to (1.4, 1.1), Hungarian to (1.15, 1.04), and Romance languages to (1.2, 1.05). For Portuguese, I'll consider a new nasalization tweak, removing ̃ and `` globally.
I'm working on these fun things called allophones. Sounds like a musical instrument right? "Now come on my son, go inside to eat and put down those allophones this minute!" Not even close. They are different, non-meaningful pronunciations (variants) of the same phoneme (basic sound unit) that occur in specific, predictable phonetic environments, like the aspirated 'p' in "pin" versus the unaspirated 'p' in "spin". Speakers of a language perceive these variations as the same sound, but they are distinct phonetic realizations that don't change a word's meaning, unlike phonemes which do.
they're all mapped in data.py - right now about 100-130 or so, but the IPA symbol of the sound is what each dictionary key entry is, and then the various voicing properties that create that sound. Many TTS engines do not pronounce IPA notation, oddly enough Espeak and NV Speech player do because Espeak has mapped these well in its own table. Eloquence? Just treats it like a questionmark. Haha, OK, it looks like there are 97 keys in the current data.
@menelion Thanks for taking me back ten years to the times when I was studying English. Fascinating stuff: the realization of some phonemes in Polish as mapped in the Espeak project was always a little odd - "sh" and "r" come to mind but there are more for sure. Good luck!

Got a question. There's a setting about load all previous items until timeline is full. If applied to the home timeline, is that infinitely? Or does it only apply to when there would be gaps from e.g. hibernation?
@x0 Yes. But this process will only start once you go to load previous. You can stop it in it's tracks by pressing the load previous hotkey again. It's worth noting though that it won't stop until it's finished with it's current pull.
OK. So *never* apply to home timeline unless I want it to try and pull all the way back to account creation from everyone I follow. Which sounds like it would flood something
DO you plan to allow us to reorder buffers, perhaps via move buffer down / move b uffer up actions for a buffer? And should there be a context menu for buffers?
@x0 Probably not any time soon. The buffer system creates buffers systematically in a pretty paricular order at the moment and would be a fun time to try and change that

Yeah, the issue is due to the way the UI works, you can't just, pop a context menu out of nowhere without being tied to a window. It'll end up in focus limbo. I supose you could do a fake menu modal like what cake does for polls, but that isn't a real menu. Also, why do the checkboxes in settings say button checked and button? And when I unchecked the one for new item sounds in buffers it didn't seem to ever say button without the checked until I hit OK and opened it again.
@jaybird110127 I'm currently running from source. And whenever I invisible over to my mentions buffer it lags for some reason. I guess that's that UI sync setting?
@jaybird110127 Huh. I just figured sync with UI while UI is hidden becomes a no-op, but checked it for the case that I use invisible keystrokes in the UI.

@jaybird110127 I actually wonder something. If you had a systray icon, would you be able to pop context menus out from that that are properly focusable without having to unearth the entire visible UI if it's hidden?
When I do this with the window hidden, it unhides the window, but then when I hit escape without doing anything and the menu goes away, the window doesn't auto-hide itself again. Is this a bug, or does it auto-hide if I actually do something, or…

Hey @Bri, there seems to be a further bug with the template system in #FastSM. When I look at my scheduled posts, it say $account.display_name$, rather than my actual display name. Not a big deal since i don't imagine I'll be checking those very often, but I figured I'd bring it up.
Gotcha. Is there no way to resolve that on my end? Or is there something I can do about it? Maybe add a $scheduled_for$ tag unless that exists, and it's just not implemented yet.
In any event this is like, super fuckin' slick and I'm totally here for it. I did notice that there's no way to record an audio file to attach to a post, but that's not a big deal by any means. For on-the-fly posting of something though it'd be cool to see that. That being said you'd have to add a few more libs like opusinc or lame_enc and i'm not sure how big that'd make the repo at the end of the day.

@clv1 well, if you give me a few words that still sound off and can describe what about the word is sounding off to you even if in generic terms like, "the sound is too much done with a closed mouth" or "it's like the tongue is in the back of the throat" I can generally improve it based on feedback like that and compare to the Espeak phonetic data to isolate where you're hearing the wrong sound at for a fix.
Actually, at this stage, it's becoming hard to say exactly where is an issue. There are issues, but the general impression is a foreigner speaking Portuguese with a charged accent. the ideal would be a tool capable of transcribing speech to IPA, so I could send you speeches by other synths. In any case, later I will try describing some issues based on your suggestions.
@clv1 lol, yes! Hungarian has the same thing. It sort of sounds like an American speaking it with an accent, it's like, if that American knew all the sounds well but learned it later enough to have an accent. Hmm, interesting right? :D

For sure, it's seriously great software you put out recently, and you address all the feedback and bugs quickly, deserved I'd say. It has been a good impact to have some great new/modernised tools for stuff I use daily.
JAWS currently has a bug in it that makes Braille display users unable to properly read long lines in Paperback, or any application using wxWidgets, for that matter. When I tried to follow up on this issue three times with a Vispero contact who assured me it would be fixed in the December 2025 JAWS update, I got silence, so it's time to get louder. @Bri 10000000 percent fair. I will continue posting audio and testing this. I seem to have maybe figured out part of the issue? It has to do with audio file size. Any file under say 10mb uploads just fine. But a 12mb recording uploaded via JPR and mona refuses every time. NOt sure if that helps but there you go.
I think that unfortunately a lot of it is instance related and I wish I knew how to fix it because I'm tired of seeing everyone complaining about it and it's annoying me myself.
