Darn, that's a lot of icons still. Despite me thinking I'd hate mac, I now only have the default apps on my dock, which kinda serves like the desktop, but mostly for stuff that's opened. Thought I'd go back to my windows habits of like, way too many icons, but nope, I guess I just stuck with the whole arrangement. Just removed a few unnecessary apps I didn't need and that was it, then kept a few I can actually open via the dock and stuck with it, so now it's that thing I am just used to. Also, nothing beats a windows refresh, to be fair. Except a super fresh windows install, to cleanup the registry only to fill it up back again. :D

So. EV is on the horizon. Looking at EV chargers... Immediately, it is surprising to me how many CURSED things the manufacturers suggest doing.
Take this - Running EV Ultra cable (3 x 6mm + a 4 twisted pair data cable inside one armoured jacket)? Use a pair for your CT connection and two pairs for Fast Ethernet!
Also interesting to discuss the safety concerns of having exposed, fragile, solid copper data wires inside that enclosure, right next to those chonkin EV charger contacts at 230VAC... That Ethernet cable probably heads off into a comms rack where people are going to be handling the ends of cables, terminating, crimping, etc... without imagining that the other end is <2cm away from live contacts with zero isolation.

I do not make/change contact information or calendar entries a lot - and if I do, I do on my phone (triggering ad-hoc syncs); a sync check should offer "nothing to sync". Does anyone know why that is and what I could do to minimize battery usage?
That's highly unusual. Even excessive syncing of multiple accounts should barely be noticable in the battery stats. which device and which network config? Maybe try to completely remove the app and reinstall.

Meshtastic has some serious design problems though, the entire network stops working once you get to about 25-30% usage of the airtime and that happens quickly because their implementation is too chatty.
Meshcore is better, but has similar problems. There are capacity issues in the Seattle area right now and they're discussing strategies to resolve it.

This technology is neat but it's pretty useless if only a couple hundred people can use it "sometimes" in a major metro area.
It's basically like everyone is sharing an Ethernet hub. We're all in the same collision domain.
the only way to fix this is with new hardware where the radios can operate on multiple frequencies simultaneously. It just doesn't exist yet so nobody's built it to work that way.
and then there's the problem of tropospheric ducting that increases the range massively for a period of time and that causes you to get a ton of new collisions from far far away
@feld yeah, itβs definitely a major issue if weβre effectively limited to a few hundred users in a metro area. I suppose most of the efforts in these projects has been just getting people on the networks, and weβre only now starting to really have to worry about capacity
I think it will have an interesting future if people get some better hardware produced. Current hardware is like Gen Alpha, hopefully we can have it hopping frequencies in the next generation

I take dance classes a few times a week. I always wear a KF94 mask. broken-tree filesystem issue possibly fixed. It still thinks /srv exists when it doesn't and the built-in fs check thinks everything is fine, but whatever. At least it shouldn't randomly decide it has no free space anymore.
@shinyoukai @feld The only BSD I would trust with my data is FreeBSD on ZFS. And maybe Dragonfly with Hammer. Except these two I don't think there's been many attempts to even have UFS journaled. You can do it with GEOM on FreeBSD somehow, but why bother when you have ZFS. Both {Open,Net}BSD have a habit of nuking filesystem on power failure.
@feld @shinyoukai i'd run ZFS if it wasnt due to it being OOT and also the fact it doesn't use the linux VFS memory system (idk if it'll error out when doing memory intensive stuff)
