@pvagner @yayfee Yeah. The one bug so far I found, maybe it needs something installed for qt to work more properly, but orca is not announcing deleted chars in qt edit fields and everytihng by kde.

@pvagner @yayfee I occasionally need to record and edit audio. I am interested in whether the new QT-based user interface of Audacity 4.0 will become accessible with Orca under Linux. The old UI is partly accessible, except for the track widget, which is crucial in my opinion. All of their custom accessibility effort appears to have been devoted to Windows, where the experience is better. So, maybe this time... I'll test 4.0 as is when it arrives in the Arch Linux repository. #audacity #accessibility #Linux #ScreenReaders
@Jason J.G. White Yeah, it turns out QT version of #Audacity is now accessible on linux. It preserves feel of the WX based vesion, it reports through at-spi names of actions you are triggering with the keyboard, track listing is accessible, selection toolbar is more accessible than the WX based one. Keyboard controls are the same and remain still configurable. I've just done quick testing with the binary version. I believe later on I'll be able to get the build with cloud functionality stripped out.
As I have launched it for the first time my initial feeling was it's not navigable with the keyboard, but I have discovered I need to press alt+f6 to focus the initial setup, go through it and then it all becomes navigable with the keyboard.
@Zvonimir Stanecic I have only tested it today. It turns out using backspace to delete characters to the left of the cursor is reported by orca for me with QT6 based apps such as transmission-qt, mixxx, kate. I've tried kdeconnect and with that it's not reported. Do you have more apps to try so I can try narrowing this or make a better bug report at least? @Jason J.G. White @yayfee
@pvagner @jason @yayfee Okayy, it turns out that accessibility variables made it work, but heere is another bug: In Kde 6.7, the online-account adding is inaccessible.
@pvagner @yayfee @storm As I recall, there are some contributors to the Orca mailing list who have tried KDE. So far as I know, its screen reader accessibility has a reputation for not being good enough for daily use yet, but my information may be outdated.
kde itself is mostly fine, possibly except for system settings. The apps though, I mostly pick from the gnome side for those, so I would have a hybrid desktop pretty much. Although, you can also use gnome, which is more accessible for now
tried gnome. Kde is simpler. I want to engage somehow in reporting bugs there, hoping that these will be fixed. I've tried gnome on fedora, but gave up after i saw also the difference in a waz how my computer sounds from these two live cd's. Gnome had worse sound, compared to kde.
