@Nicks World @Martin Frankly #element the most common #matrix client is technically very accessible although very few blind people like to use it. Feel fre to try it out.
Or if you would like to try something else that is nice both in terms of your privacy and accessibility as well look at #deltachat.
@alexchapman I've used it a lot, although not so much recently because I need to set up my homeserver and all the bridges again after switching to NixOS. But I thought Element X was pretty good on iOS and Android and it had been getting better with some issues being fixed. I actually preferred it to the Discord mobile app. I didn't use it as much on desktop, but I think Element was accessible although sometimes it felt inefficient to use, and a desktop app designed for screen readers would have been very cool. But I also really like ement-el; its a Matrix client for Emacs and works pretty well with speechd-up, and lets me use Matrix from the terminal which was very cool. There is even an Apple Watch app called Watch The Matrix that was very accessible and let me read and send messages from my watch. I mostly used Matrix with bridges for Discord and WhatsApp and I would have used an iMessage bridge if I could find a good one to set up or if I had a Mac server. I was in a few Matrix rooms too but most of the activity was bridges. I liked having all my messaging platforms in one app and being able to send and receive messages on any platform, even Emacs and my Apple Watch.
@Maria Reyes @Nicks World @Martin Yes, @Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox has chats included it supports #XMPP #IRC and #matrix however it does not have all the latest features of messengers such as voice messages, message reactions and similar. For simple text chatting without end to end encryption thunderbird is a nice instant messaging app.
