Use Signal.
If you want to text someone, use Signal instead.
If you want to DM someone on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Bluesky, Mastodon… use Signal instead.
If you want to contact someone via WhatsApp, iMessage or Telegram, use Signal instead.
If you want to Zoom, FaceTime, Meet, or Teams someone, use Signal instead.

Is it possible to use Signal without a phone number and without connection to a phone?

@fexplorer no it is not. You have to provide a valid phone number to Signal, but you can hide your phone number to the people you talk to by replacing it with a username.

Signal is generally good, no question.
But in my opinion, the strong connection to a phone and number is not a good thing when it comes to #accessibility (for those who cannot afford a phone with a long-term contract):
Perhaps there are alternatives e.g. #XMPP or #Matrix...
