I am excited to be presenting an accessibility workshop for #InnovateUS. I will be focusing on taking a role-based approach for accessibility. Subject-matter experts (SME) have their role, but too often responsibilities in government are hardened and accessibility becomes someone else's responsibility. Taking a role-based approach can fix barriers earlier in the project's lifecycle.

It is really terrific to hear about the great work on #OpenSource being done by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It was terrific to learn about the work of @jakerella work & about the adoption of #OSS in #DigitalGovernment.

Great to see government agencies setting up Open Source Program Office #OSPO & beginning to change the culture around buying, building and sharing code. All this helps broader goals towards government transparency and #OpenGovernment.

Another article on #OpenSource, this time written by Richard Pope, who was one of the founding members of the UK’s #GDS. There is just so much for which governments can benefit by engaging with the open source communities that they use. Furthermore, the government contributing their work back to the public #GitHub or #GitLab repositories makes the code more secure and drives down the costs for #DigitalGovernment.
