In Welsh myths, pigs originally came from the Otherworld, a gift from the fairy king Arawn. The Welsh point to all the many different kinds of marvelous food one can turn pigs into (bacon, sausages, pork chops, etc.) as proof that pigs are magical creatures.

In Wales, if you want a bwca or bwbachod (a goblin who cleans your home), then leave out a cup of cream each night (or better yet, a cup of ale). However, bwcas hate teetotalers. If you refuse to drink alcohol, they may kick you or throw your plates at you.

[EN]Since new readers have arrived here, I think I should introduce myself again. My name is Berta, I am a Spanish-Ecuadorian #philosopher and #artist. I am especially interested in the transition from #nature to #cultures, #mythology, #religion, and #symbolism. In my current #photography project, I am reconstructing the myth of Persephone.

Today's #MythologyMonday theme is metalworking. Coincidentally I was digging into the myth of Hephaestos, and came up with some tidbits.

When Zeus threw Hephaestos off Olympos (to punish him for trying to shield Hera from his wrath), the blacksmith god landed on the island of Lemnos and broke his leg.

The fun bit is, apparently the island was inhabited by fearsome pirates. They nursed Hephaestos back to health and gave him a home.

I want "Hephaestos and the pirates" to be a thing 😄

International Women's Day is approaching, and I always do a folktale selection on my blog for it.
So far, I've had:

🐉 Women slaying monsters
⚔️ Women in war
⚕️ Woman healers
👭 Women helping women
👵 Badass grandmas

Trying to come up with a theme for this year's post. Any suggestions?

I found my new favorite coffee shop in Budapest 🥰 Pompeii Latte Art Cafe. They have a bookshelf entirely filled with books on Greek and Roman mythology! And archeology. And the coffee is amazing too. And you get quotes from Classical authors with your drink, on little scrolls. How cool is that?

In Greek mythology, a little owl represents or accompanies Athena and has become known as a symbol of knowledge and wisdom attesting to the staying power of the Olympians. The whispers of Athena's legacy are everywhere.

The symbology of the owl has often inspired my own journey. The ability to see through the darkness of life and find knowledge is a potent totem.
