📣 ✍️ New #webdev blog post!

This one is special to me, partly because it took some time to cook 😅 , partly because I talk a bit about #ux (which is not my main field), and partly because it features an experiment: after talking about #webpush and #pwa with #django, I'm asking my dear readers (you 😉) to visit a small demo website and tell me how it went!

You can give feedback here, or on Lemmy, Lobsters, etc. I'll update the post with the links!

So here it is: david.guillot.me/en/posts/tech…

Enjoy! 😸🔔

EDIT: started a new job last week!
Hey friends,

I'm restarting my job search; I had an offer, but it fell through.

Remote US preferred, but hybrid Washington, DC works too. I have 17-ish YOE as a software engineer, and have worked on both frontend and backend, but I lean toward the backend.

#Elixir #Phoenix, #Python #Django, and #React are what I know best.

Hoping to #GetFediHired

Edit: adding my LinkedIn

For those who want a peek behind the scenes – our #accessibility team’s yearly retrospective notes are all public: github.com/wagtail/wagtail/dis…

Highlights of what’s coming up next:

- Accessibility x #django workshop proposals @oscafest and @djangoconafrica 2025
- More testing with our users with disabilities
- More automated tests
- Continue the data-driven accessibility decisions

🍞 In 2018, I updated the #Django contributor tutorial to walk readers through an imaginary ticket adding a make_toast() function.

So far, about 60 new contributors have accidentally made a full PR with their results: github.com/django/django/pulls…

I bet you some future LLM product will recommend adding django.make_toast() for real because it looks like such a popular suggestion!

Hello #Fediverse! #Pinetta is a decentralized FOSS social pinboard in the style of Pinterest. After a month of planning, we've settled on a basic game plan and are opening up our @Codeberg repo for contributions from devs and designers!

We'll be working on a prototype that uses #Python and #Django to get the basic functionality working. We'll also be hosting weekly sharing sessions on #CommunityBuilding principles to develop our Code of Conduct and a larger framework for community wellness. 🥳
