To kind of summarize some of the recent #Bluesky drama. Yesterday Bluesky changed their Terms of Service to require binding arbitration. Users are unhappy, but there's nothing they can do about it because Bluesky is not decentralized and there is no place they can go. Today, Bluesky banned a user for wishing ill of J.K. Rowling for her anti-trans hate. Users are very unhappy, but there's nothing they can do about it because Bluesky is not decentralized and there is no place they can go.

Ok real talk for a second. I like #fedi, I do. But a subset of people on here have a serious case of the smug going on and it's frankly vile as fuck. I'm referring to people who go "This wouldn't have happened if you'd just switched to #linux" when someone has a computer issue. Or people deriding others for being on #blueSky which isn't properly proper centralized(tm) and har har dee har when that social network does something that allows folks on here to feel superior.
Gonna give it straight here: it's people like this that essentially make #fedi, as a whole, come across as a bunch of judgy, spiteful, angry nerds that want to be off in their own little corner hiding from the world and judging everyone who doesn't feel the same way. It's akin to that guy at parties who's seen the light and spends the entire time convincing others to buy a hybrid, or go on a keto diet, or try essential oils and yeerety sneer if you don't intend to smoke whatever they're smoking.

Avoid posting forum messages to Bluesky?
When you post to a Freindica forum, including lemmy communities, using the ! like !Friendica Support by default it only goes to the group, and any other you tag with ! or @ regardless of the privacy settings for the post. I have the Bluesky add-on active and I recently learned that all of those messages are showing on #Bluesky anyway. I can go into the privacy options and deselect the button to "Post to Bluesky" but I often forget to do so on my desktop. My preferred mobile cliient #AndStatus doesn't even have the option to do so. Am I missing something? Is there some other setting I can toggle to ensure I don't post to some other network inadvertently, while still having it post all my PUBLIC posts their? @AndStatus@Mastodon

1) Shows they are planning on doing content deals with AI companies.
2) Seems like it is Opt-out vs. Opt-in (see below).

A PSA for people active on #Bluesky: your block list is PUBLIC information.

A website that tracks Bluesky stats – which I am not naming here on purpose – makes this job super easy: you can enter *any* username and see the accounts a user has blocked.

(Yes I tested it with my account and was horrified)

I'm alarmed by this because the information could be weaponized for abuse.

Muting may be the safer choice then?

yikes, bsky removing or labeling Palestinian accounts as spam, ostensibly because they are following too many people or posting gofundmes, but according to these threads the problem looks too widespread to just be a coincidence from e.g. automated flagging. Can't find any response from their mod team. Composable moderation is good but i am not sure how the atproto labeling model addresses the baseline problem of scaling suspensions/bans - either they take a very light touch and you get a flood of nazis, or you need to lean on automated tools or overworked mods without enough context which has (hopefully accidentally, but still really bad) impacts like this.

For some reason people fleeing the sinking #Twitter / #X ship for #BlueSky don't seem to be aware of the fact that crypto bros at #BlockchainCapital bought a huge stake in the company just a few weeks ago. Like these are basically the same crypto bros who just helped #ElonMusk buy Twitter. They might even be literally the same people (I strongly suspect they are but I'm too lazy to check). Either way #BlockchainCapital was co-founded by #BrockPierce, who also brought you #Tether, AKA the company that Trump's transition team chairman manages $120 billion for. Pierce is also a friend of the #Netanyahu family.

One of the main subjects of discussion recently has been whether Bluesky is decentralised and if it is federated. I think answering these questions requires a clarity on how ATProto differs conceptually from ActivityPub. Decentralisation and federation are valued for how they impact power structures, but there are multiple ways to build other power structures in open social networks. A bit of the summary at the top, since that might help during reading: The conceptual model of ActivityPub resembles that of email: independent servers sending messages to each other. The conceptual model of ATProto resembles that of the web: independent sites publish data, and indexers aggregate this data into different views and apps.

BlueSky has just been partially bought by a cryptocurrency company "Blockchain Capital" and appointed a blockchain / cryptocurrency expert to their board:

Bisher habe ich nur Beiträge inkludiert, die 'rp24' im Text enthielten. Für diesen Post habe ich alles gezählt, was in der jeweiligen Suche auftaucht. Dadurch steigen vor allem die Zahlen von #Bluesky (+230), weil der dortige rp24-Feed mehrere #rp24 Suchbegriffe enthält. Bei #XCorp kommen ein paar (+28) false positives über Matches in Usernames dazu. #Threads ist jetzt auch dabei und überholt Bluesky knapp.

Es gibt insgesamt ein starkes Tagesverlaufsmuster. Am Untertags viele Posts, nachts fast nichts. Am meisten gab es am Vormittag des 27.5. mit über 100 Posts pro Stunde im Fediverse. Fediverse mit einem klaren Vorsprung vor #Xcorp, #Bluesky und #Threads sind quasi gleichauf. #Linkedin konnte ich nur unvollständig erfassen, weil sie Suche dort nur einen eingeschränkten Zeitraum zurückgeht (und Posts haben keinen Veröffentlichungszeitpunkt, nur einen Veröffentlichungstag). #Facebook abgeschlagen am letzten Platz. #Instagram kann ich gar nicht mehr vergleichen, weil die Suche nur noch Top-Beiträge anzeigt, nicht mehr die aktuellsten. #TikTok Suche ist ebenfalls ungeeignet, weil Hashtags nicht exakt gematcht werden und deshalb die Ergebnisse statt mit re:publica mit RetourenPrinz24 voll sind. Solltet ihr Vorschläge für andere Plattformen haben, wo öffentliche Kommunikation zur Veranstaltung stattgefunden hat, lasst es mich wissen.
