What's better than one open source conference? Two open source conferences!

If you're at State of Open Con 2024 in London today and/or tomorrow, feel free to come and talk to me about @thunderbird!

What a conference! Thanks so much to @openuk for inviting me to speak yesterday. Lots of fun on the Sonatype stand today!

Also managed to speak to EM360Tech yesterday on #OpenSource (please ignore the spot on my forehead) 😂

Curious what #OpenSource & #FreeSoftware advocates propose for building a culture of accessibility in their teams.

Hundreds of companies showed up for #FOSDEM & are at #StateOfOpenCon right now.

As a movement, how do we:
- orient new people to our teams?
- ensure compliance are set up and maintained?
- keep up with best practices for sharing our code/ideas?

VP of Infrastructure @ Google Eric Brewer:

"#OpenSource is critical public infrastructure"

Effective curation is essential & an existential issue if we don't get it right.

Massive thanks to our #opensource policy colleagues, and to our partners at @gloshospitals and Polygeist for really focussing on the real question around #AI: what it means to use it properly in order to improve patient experience.

Amazing to hear from Chi Onwurah, Labour Shadow Minister Science, Research and Technology.
On:
* Open MP - Ensuring transparency and trust
* How regulation can help strong growth
* The benefits of open standards
* The importance of trust
* The importance of ethics in tech

Speaking of the #stateofopencon , I will be giving a talk this afternoon. The talk is the supervillain guide on how to destroy an #opensource community. While for most people, I would strongly dissuade you from following the plays, if you are a budding supervillain, the content will be educational.

The inaugural State Of Open conference organised by non-profit @openuk takes place in London tomorrow and Wednesday.

Topics cover open source software, open data, open hardware and is the first conference of its kind that I'm aware of in the UK.

There are still a few tickets available, free for those in education or currently seeking work.

I'm volunteering at the conference both days, helping speakers and attendees, and hope to see some of you there.
