The original Raspberry Pi was awesome because it ran cool. You could just set it up and forget about it, literally for decades. But now they require fans, they're just like any other computer. They've added a definite point of failure, given enough time. Well done, chaps.

@matrix ARe there any recordings of day 1 of the conference? The videos at:
2024.matrix.org/watch/

Only seem to show Saturdays talks, not Fridays.

Would be even more awesome to see them on #Peertube.

in reply to Blort™ 🐀Ⓥ🥋☣️

All the session videos will be online in the next ~week or so, and one of our speakers will be generously mirroring them on PeerTube here: video.innovationhub-act.org/c/…

And we look forward to rolling out our own official PeerTube channel before MatrixConf 2025!

That is AWESOME news, and a strong demonstration of decentralization by example.

Thankyou for the ceaseless work towards progress with #Matrix / #Element / #Synapse / #Peertube.

Anarchism is just the way people act when they are free to do as they choose, and when they deal with others who are equally free.

A billionaire dumping waste in the river: "This is just the way I act when I'm free to do as I choose. Others are free not to drink from the river or to get into a shoot out with my private army."

An all white town lynching the only black family: "This is just the way we act when we're free to do as we choose. They're free to buy more guns to defend themselves against us."

A small town refusing service to the only trans person: "They're free to move somewhere else."

in reply to raccoona_nongrata

“A billionaire dumping waste in the river” is enabled by the coercive state.

“An all white town lynching the only black family” is enabled by the coercive state.

“A small town refusing service to the only trans person” is enabled by the coercive state.

It’s easy to imagine people already powerful in our society acting with impunity, because they already do right now, under the status quo of the coercive state. This is the antithesis of what anarchists are talking about when we discuss and advocate for freedom, which includes the freedom to resist these depredations.

Which would you rather do if you could go back to the past? #Poll #Polls #MastoMonday

  • meet a famous figure from history (0 votes)
  • witness the Big Bang (0 votes)
Poll end: 1 month ago

in reply to Poll Bot

I mean… you cannot technically witness the Big Bang because there was no time before it apparently, and the space was condensed into a tiniest dot, so you wouldn't survive. Unless you believe in the Wheel of the Time, which is a hepothesis not worse than others.

Chrome on the Mac uses less battery than Safari

It's one of the most pervasive common wisdoms shared all over the web, no matter where you go - it's one of those things everybody seems to universally agree on: Chrome will absolutely devastate your battery life on the Mac, and you should really be using Safari, because Apple's special integration magic pixie dust sprinkles ensures Safari sip

From 2015 to 2019 I was a sex addict, sleeping with 5 to 10 men a week. I discovered a lot about myself. But I mainly discovered that single men of any age mostly live like teenagers, in squalid flats full of dirty washing-up, massive televisions, and random guitars/drum-kits.

Just discovered that @thunderbird mail filters won't actually filter anything on any folder other than Inbox (even subfolders inside Inbox).

So all my "Delete after 1 week/month/year" rules weren't deleting anything, causing my mail to balloon out of control.

Does anyone know a way to get #Thunderbird to filter stuff in folders? I see old threads about extensions and arcane about:config settings, but nothing that seems to apply to current TB.

1000 fedipoints for the first correct answer!

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

It might be able to help with moving emails to the trash, but what I'm really after is not just automatic deleting of emails.

I'm after being able to use mail filters in my folders.

That would let me do many, many things beyond just deleting. For me personally, I set up filters to change tags, to forward when they're marked todo without being done for a certain length of time, to mark read/unread and more.

Filters are/were the #1 feature of #Thunderbird over webmail for me.
