@𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙖 🥼🧫 @Delta Chat Damn, it's so simple, easy to use and perfectly accessible with a screen reader on both linux and android. My personal request to the future would be add a setting that would start with camera muted, but that's just a personal preference and can eventually be done later.
On desktop the call is displayed inside its own window and I can keep chatting while calling.
Another request for the mobile app would be an ability to minimize the call so I can do other things with the phone while on the call.
Comparing this experience with other open-source audio calling apps such as #jami, #element or #conversations. This needed no tweaking or additional setup from my side and is the only one that has worked on a first try for me. Congratulations for such a great experience!

#ElementX nutze ich schon länger parallel zu #Element für meine Chats.

Nun habe ich aber das neue #SchildiChat Next ausprobiert.

Es basiert auch auf ElementX, hat aber #Spaces integriert. Das gefällt mir sehr gut. Damit lassen sich z.B. Chaträume übersichtlich ordnen.

#Matrix ist für mich nach wie vor ne gute Sache. Ich würde es auch WhatsApp-Wechslern eher empfehlen als #Signal ... vor allem auch, weil man sich damit nicht vom Smartphone abhängig macht.

I have now filed a bug report about the web version of #Element (the flagbearing #Matrix client) constantly using/waking my CPU while it is unfocused in a background tab in Firefox: github.com/element-hq/element-…

I'm hoping I'm not the only one observing this issue, and that some power saving improvements can be made, because to me this would look like a big drain on battery life for modern #laptops that *need* you to let their CPUs sleep while idle.

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

Before and after closing the #Matrix #Element chat client tab in Firefox: 2.8 gigabytes of RAM freed. For *one tab*. And this is not a memory-inefficient browser we're talking about.

I guess feature-rich public chatrooms have a cost.

Wow, #Element (the flagship #Matrix client) dropped support for #Firefox ESR in release 1.11.70. Or rather, they never supported it in the first place, only supporting "last two versions". The change causes a corrupted session for ESR users, and can't be reverted to fix it.

(Note that all Debian Stable users, by default, run Firefox ESR. This is kind of a big deal. ESR is always up to date on security, and gets new features once per year.)

The best we've gotten so far, from a dev caught in the middle:

Today in #MatrixRooms: Searching #Matrix rooms from multiple places, just like with #SepiaSearch or #LemmyVerse.

Detailed instructions can be found in the alt text. In short, for #Element and #SchildiChat Web/Desktop user:
0. Open search in Element (Ctrl+K)
1. In the "Show" dropdown menu, press "Add new server...". Type matrixrooms.info and proceed.
2. Pick newly added rooms directory.

In Element app, there is such thing as room search. Invoke search by pressing button on the top left or Ctrl+K. Then type anything and pick "Public rooms" or whatever. Locate the dropdown menu for "Show: Matrix rooms (*)". You will see multiple pre-defined room directories like your homeserver, matrix.org, etc. Press "Add new server..." and proceed by typing "matrixrooms.info". It will create an entry on your account that you use this as a room directory for search. It should now appear wherever you go under the same "Show" dropdown menu. Don't forget to pick matrixrooms.info room directory. Now Element will search for any rooms that this server knows of.

@Matthias ✔ I can't make it work. Perhaps it's not enough keyboard accessible or something similar. Can you please try to describe how you use this feature in slightly more details please? When trying to mention your display name I start typing the @ sign followed by mat, then pressing up or down arrow keys I am expecting I should be able to select from the list of suggestions. Pressing the tab key to trigger the auto complete is not working the way I would expect as well. To reference an accessible autocomplete implementation I can point out #element #matrix client for example. When using #tuskyapp with my #friendica account I can autocomplete #Hastags but I can't complete user mentions.
