Throwing this out there for anyone who might be interested in participating or who would just like a place to find potentially interesting books. :)

We are currently voting on a self-help/psychology genre, the results for which will be announced tonight. The winners will be discussed on May 18 and June 1 at 8:00 pm eastern.

Message me if you have any questions, but otherwise anyone is free to check it (and us) out!

We have text-based social and creative writing chats on WhatsApp, and our book discussions take place over Zoom.

I'm also working on making the site more visually formatted/pleasing.

NEW EPISODE!

"When Driving is Not an Option with Anna Zivarts."

One-third of people in the US can’t drive. Those tens of millions of people are often invisible to planners and elected officials, and that’s why Anna Letitia Zivarts, a low-vision nondriver and activist has written a new book, "When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency." We talked with Anna about building a system that works for everyone.

Just finished that YouTube video "How the Far-Right Weaponizes Nostalgia". As soon as he used the word "geek" in the part about people getting worked up about changing canonical characters, I remembered your distinction between "geek" and "nerd"(blog.glyph.im/2012/10/the-lexi…). I hope I'm more nerd than geek.

Probably mostly because of my blindness, I didn't take in a lot of the usual pop culture stuff (video games, TV shows, movies) growing up, so I don't have much if any nostalgia for those. I do, from time to time, indulge a bit in the nostalgia of retro computing, in my case pulling up an Apple II emulator. But it doesn't take long to remember that newer systems actually are better, particularly in accessibility.
in reply to Matt Campbell

There's one thing I get nostalgic for which is possibly more dangerous, and that's the music I grew up with. Since I grew up in the American evangelical Christian subculture, I primarily listened to the genre called "contemporary Christian music". Musically, it imitated mainstream styles, but of course the lyrics carry messages I no longer believe in (I'm now an atheist). And of course, now American evangelicals are a big part of the far right.

ahh, that's not that hard. You pick an instance or host your own, make a room, or a space if you have multiple rooms, think of those as discord servers where rooms are channels, then bridge with telegram if you want, and finally put on some moderation bots, for example mjolnir or dropnear if I spelled that correctly, for abuse prevention. There you go, almost done. If you want to persue this further, I'm happy to help if you're having issues with any of the above.

To improve accessibility, Android 15 is adding a new method to enable screen magnification: tapping the screen twice with two fingers.

We're joining today's #TuneTuesday as Thunderbird! Today's theme is #MyGenerationMusic and we're going back 20 years (!) to 2004 when Thunderbird 1.0 came into the world. To us, this song still sounds as good as it did two decades ago!

What was playing when you made your debut? (Fellow open source project socials, we're looking at you!)

Ahoy, Chooms! Here's another #RadioFreeSociety special request broadcast! :hackers_town:

So we all know the usual influences of cyberpunk, right? Usually from the American/East Asian merged styles. But what about other parts of the world? What about other cultures? It's a big world out there; how do other countries and cultures influence their #Cyberpunk?

We have Afrofuturism, of course, which is an awesome style of cyberpunk! And we have some degree of Middle Eastern and Maghreb cyberpunk with George Alec Effinger's "Marîd Audran" series of novels!

We also have Hawai'ian cyberpunk, courtesy of @silverspookgames's "Neofeud", a graphic adventure set in a cyberpunk world! silverspook.itch.io/neofeudsil…

But what about cyberpunk from, say, South America? The Caribbean? Southeast Asia? India? I'd love to see more cultures and their takes of cyberpunk!

So share some cool cyberpunk stories and tales from all the cultures, Chooms! Let's help get representation of people that are usually not seen in the genre! Everyone deserves to be seen and heard; let's raise their voices!

And don't forget... #HackThePlanet! :earth_photo: DJ Jotaro, signing out! :vulcan:

Latest reminder that the Trump stolen-classified-documents case judge is effectively a member of the defense team:

"Judge Pushes Back Critical Filing Deadline in Trump Documents Case

"Judge Aileen M. Cannon did not immediately set a new date, but the delay increases the chance that the trial will not happen before the November election."

This is in-your-face corruption.
