It's my anniversary on the dragon-themed instance and Mastodon in general. To celebrate, I am sharing the legend of the Wawel dragon, the staple symbol of the Polish city of Cracow. See how that compares to Smaug. haha

I just hit "submit" on Tidelift's answers to the Office of the National Cyber Director's ( #ONCD ) Request for Information on open source security, so going to think out loud here a little bit as prep for a blog post later in the week.

Here's the background on the RFI: cisa.gov/news-events/news/we-w…

🧵(As an aside, I wish I had the humor and time to submit a "devil's dictionary of open source sustainability" to this RFI: where "dependency" means "thing we don't acknowledge exists"; where "support" means "buy pizza, but not regularly because that would change the accounting treatment"; where "Nebraska" is "a place where magic happens, for free"; etc., etc.)

Už po několikáté projíždím seznam a fotky těch, které unesl hamaSS 7. října. Tečou mi u toho slzy z očí. Slzy vzteku na zlo. Zlo, které lidstvo pěstuje i v roce 2023. ♥️🇮🇱 #BringThemHomeNow

It's been a full house this morning to kickoff Day 1 of #FWD50 2023.

We opened with our welcoming keynote from Co-Founder and Content Chair @acroll, The Hon. Anita Indira Anand (President, TBS), Kris Lovejoy (Global Practice Leader, Security & Resiliency Kyndryl), Robyn Scott (Co-Founder & CEO Apolitical), Jacqueline Lu (President & Co-Founder Helpful Places), @sboots, Jennifer Pahlka, and The Hon. Terry Beach (Minister of Citizens’ Services, Government of Canada).

@mgifford I think ladders aren't always bad, ours just had unintended effects on the fish !

"In the 1950s, the Penticton Creek was ‘channelized’ in response to flooding that devastated Penticton’s downtown. While the concrete channel helped with flood management, native fish species struggled with the loss of natural creek habitat and populations dropped. "

Oh, boy. We're heading back from the #UbuntuSummit, but you don't need a transatlantic flight to get a transition ritual before you check that work inbox, or after you close it for the day. Take a walk, make some tea - just take a break from the e-mail! It might sound weird coming from us, but trust us on it. 😉 💙

We'd love to hear your favorite transition rituals and virtual commutes - or what you do to make a commute to an office better! 🚶 🚋

My favorite transition thing for the longest time was to go play a few rounds of Tetris 99 in the living room. High speed gameplay, completely engrossing, with rounds that end quickly. 15 minutes or so of this, and I was good to go do something else!

Nowadays, I mix it up more. Go do an errand, clean-up... or maybe some #Tetris still!

Fantastic talk by @sboots on what ails government tech in Canada — and elsewhere — and what could be done to fix it, without a shoutout to @Marthalanefox’ paper in 2010 gov.uk/government/publications… & @govuk & @GDSTeam since. Humble, smart, inspiring. #fwd50

In the comments of the last #video, someone had asked René Fürst for an InfinityBook S 15 with a special configuration - we were happy to make the device available for a #review.

Yellow leaves are harvested and pickled (giving them flavour and preserving them for year-long use).
Red leaves are not used as the stems grow too hard.
The leaves are typically fried with sugar (& sesame) added to the batter, then left overnight.

Momiji tempura is nowadays flavoured in many different ways...sweet, salty & everything in-between🍁
When visiting Minō, do check out Hisakuni Kōsendō (久國紅仙堂). The store raises 150 maple trees & has been specialising in momiji tempura for 80 years.

Admiring the autumn foliage is known as 'momijigari' (紅葉狩り lit. 'hunting for autumn leaves') in Japanese🔎👀🍁👏

The 'gari' (狩り) in 'momijigari' (紅葉狩り) originally referred to the capturing of wild animals and birds, but over time also came to mean 'harvesting', 'gathering' or 'picking' plants.
Another example of this is 'kudamono-gari' (果物狩り), which means to gather fruit.
