Leasey update available. New in Build 9040.

When Pressing Insert+T to read the window title, if JAWS 2024 is used you will hear the visual state of the window, such as, Maximised.
As usual, press the keystroke twice quickly to virtualise.

Word Quick Navigation Keys. Leasey can remember the state of Quick Navigation on a document by document basis.
Check the documentation for details.

Microsoft CoPilot. JAWS no longer uses Application Mode and instead uses traditional web page navigation. This prevents JAWS from moving into and out of Navigation Mode particularly in lists of items.
In addition, if you move out of CoPilot and back to it, the virtual cursor is located in the correct position on the page.

VLC Media Player. In JAWS 2024, the total and elapsed time scripts are now functioning again.

Emoji. When using the Leasey key then Control+Shift+E, the correct emoji character is once again inserted into the document or text edit area. This was broken in the previous build, 9027.

Outlook Attachments. When using Windows11, and the Leasey file attachments list, copying and pasting into File Explorer should now be working again.

Microsoft Word. The list of recent documents is now functioning.

Interesting with the Insert T thing. JAWS now does it anyway without Leasey, if you press it twice.
in reply to TalkingDroid

@TalkingDroid Ah but that's the point. A lot of people want the title virtualised, and for years, we've had that on Insert+T twice quickly. So a way had to be found to give people that functionality while not spoiling what they are already enjoying. It's like Window-Eyes used to be. That always gave you the window state on Insert+T. Good memories.
in reply to Hartgen Consultancy

@TalkingDroid Although I preferred using JAWS over Window-Eyes, the fact is that Window-Eyes had some really nice features that JAWS never tried to import. One was the ability to move the caret to the next or previous misspelled word or grammatical error and I'm very happy that this capability exists with Leasey.
My other favorite feature in Window-Eyes was cursor keys, which you really can't do with JAWS without scripting.
in reply to David Goldfield

@DavidGoldfield David, you can move between misspelled words in JAWS. Simply press M in virtual cursor mode.
in reply to TalkingDroid

@TalkingDroid You're right but the process for moving to misspelled words with JAWS is clunky and requires too many keystrokes. You have to enable the virtual cursor, move to the next incorrect word and you then need to disable the virtual cursor if you then want to make any changes. I never understood why JAWS never implemented keystrokes to move the caret/cursor to the next or previous incorrect item without the need to first enable the virtual cursor. This is something Window-Eyes allowed for and Leasey does this.
in reply to Hartgen Consultancy

wow, all these years and putting the Window State as part of the title call never occurred to me.

Wouldn't want it in the alt+tab order, I'll admit, but it's a clever place to put it for when you need to check.

It appears the Dutch government has decided to greenlight the EU plan to make 'big tech' force-install software on all European phones that will automatically report any questionable photos in your private chat messages to the police. This is not actually about protecting the children. This is about removing the very possibility of private communications. We can tell because governments have exempted themselves from this legislation (!). Here's something I wrote earlier: berthub.eu/articles/posts/end-…

A quick question, please 🙏 I copy a text and it is, let's say, Verdana. I paste it to my Libre Writer and it converts the text into its default font. I tried every possible paste options but no solution (whereas OnlyOffice paste the text as I want). I use Debian, Libre Office 24.8.1.2 🙏

"all the whitespace got stripped out of this python file, how do I fix it?"

"rewrite it in rust and use rustfmt"

in reply to Hubert Figuière

@hub significant whitespace giveth; significant whitespace taketh away 😥

in all seriousness, after fighting with python indentation, it was thrilling to throw some crappily formatted code at rustfmt and have it Just Work 😂

There’s nothing quite like tight kerning to make a design look dean and modem.

this latest edition of "Android team posting nothing but Ws for adopting Rust" is super important because it identifies that:

*you don't have to actually rewrite all your old unsafe C/C++ code to get the benefits of adopting safe languages, in terms of reducing vulnerabilites*

because they identify that most bugs are in new/changed code (with exponential decay!), so if you preferentially write new code in a safe language, your vulnerabilities crater even though most of your code is still unsafe!

Interesting to read about this new adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Although... am I the only one who remembers ABC radio's Doctor Who parody 'Doctor Poo', and his epic adventure involving 20,000 *Legs* Under the Sea? (It was piloted by the evil Captain Kneemoss - so called because he had moss on his knees).

Just me?

So by now are shows like CBS Mystery Theater and Sears Radio Theater considered to be old time radio? And does that mean that shows from the '30s and '40s are now old old time radio?
in reply to David Goldfield

A while back I discovered that on the CbS radio Mystery Theater site some of the recordings contain newscasts from 1977 and 78. I listen to them now over 40 years after the broadcast. In the 70's when I collected old time radio shows, when I heard newscasts, they ere only 30 years or less old.

I'm having an odd issue with my apple watch series 10. Frequently, voiceover seems to get stuck on a screen. Swiping gives me no feedback. Bringing up apple pay, then dismissing it takes me back to the watch face. Also seeing an issue where pressing clear all notifications does nothing. Is anyone else seeing this? Thinking it might be a watch os 11 bug.

Hey @NVAccess, how do you stop websites from pinging NVDA into focus mode? This is particularly problematic in for instance the Google Drive website.
in reply to Haily Merry

In NVDA"s browse mode settings you can turn off "Enable browse mode on page load": nvaccess.org/files/nvda/docume…
in reply to NV Access

See also the settings Automatic focus mode for focus changes and Automatic focus mode for caret movement in browse mode settings. I turned both of those off for focus-mode apps so it will just stay there. It still happens sometimes, especially when I press enter to go into a dialog or application, but at least that makes sense, the only quirk there is that it does it with no sound. This is useful for E.G. Discord and Pinafore+forks, but I originally enabled it for Skype years ago.

Among the many absurdities here is the question of why our legal system allows Walmart to sic the cops on her in the first place and does not punish Walmart for misuse of that process. It's an alleged underpayment of $67. Send a dunning letter and go to small claims court.

I remember being in elementary school & we had some police liasons come to do presentations(indoctrination speeches) at our school assemblies. I distinctly remember all of them telling us: "No one is above the law." I believed that for awhile too.
I realized that statement was a total crock of lies, when I grew up some more. I saw how often police officers, politicians & rich white folks were able to do many different crimes without facing any prison time.

The solution to RTO? Unionize. You felt that there was no need to unionize in tech? Look at the RTO some of them being backwards (aka you were hired as a remote worker).

You have the power, exercise it.

re: my last boost: I wonder who started such a crazy topic?
in reply to David Goldfield

David, I don't see boosts from you. I see posts that look like your original content until I see the link. It would actually be really helpful if you did boost when you can
in reply to David Goldfield

It's like you are posting, not using the boost feature. With a boost, you won't be entering any text at all, simply pressing the boost button
in reply to David Goldfield

There, you've just done it with Bruce's post but most times I don't see them
in reply to Dave Taylor

@davetaylor2112 Odd, as I boost a lot of things, mostly using Mona on iOS but also from Tweesecake.
in reply to David Goldfield

And your post where you just said re my last boost, it wasn't threaded. Mastodon is silly with this Ithink, but to make it work, you boost the post, then you reply to the post you boosted, then you boost your reply! It's supposed to increase interaction, but Ithink it just makes things harder to follow. I wish we could quote!

A Waydroid-specific gripe: there doesn't seem to be an easy way to copy something on my host and paste it into the terminal. In general the Waydroid environment and the host environment are far too isolated.

George Lucas got the idea for Princess Leia's iconic "space buns" from Mexican revolutionary women. Specifically Clara de la Rocha, a total badass.

Clara's descendant recounted:

"She crossed a river on horseback…and was able to take out a power station in order to allow the rebel forces to attack during night without being seen."

Just like Leia, eh?
