The current Mozilla seems to believe that there is "good" advertising and "bad" advertising, and that furthermore there is "good" ad tracking/ad surveillance and "bad" ad tracking/ad surveillance, and all they have to do is do a lot of the "good" advertising and "good" surveillance and somehow this will cause there to be less of the "bad" advertising and surveillance. As if there is a limit on how much advertising it is possible to fit in the world.
@hub yeah i could maybe believe an ad company making a browser could work (under some circumstances i would use chrome) but an ad blocker company selling ads is the reddest flag
They are wrong, and obviously wrong, on nearly every count here.
Advertising is simply bad.
The thing that makes their "good" advertising supposedly "good" is some very wonky set of very mathematical properties about the exact way in which they violate our privacy. As if when advertising makes our life worse we are doing statistics on it, to decide if our unhappiness is morally pure.
And when you add Mozilla's advertising to the existing "bad" advertising, all you get is more advertising.
good point. I am mainly disappointed that management didn't read their own list archives—did Internet freedom people compromise with any of the other possible dystopia timelines?

Codec patent cartel (huge IT companies) no, we have free media formats
DRM mandate "Fritz Chip" (US government + big media) no, we dodged this one too
Can't beat this stuff with compromises that leave supporters feeling creeped out
@dmarti About "free media formats" there a few things they botched, self inflicted.
1. EME to allow DRM. Not an uptick into the market share. 2. some initiative didn't work with Firefox without proprietary codec because one part of the company had to clue (won't give the name of the initiative)
I genuinely believe Mozilla thinks it's acting in the public interest by moving further into the ad-tech ecosystem, claiming that it's doing so in a privacy-protecting way.
But the history of ad-tech is that it swallows everything it touches.

wow yeah that's tempting, think I got the one I have for like 850 or 900 but that was in 2020 or so. Doesn't sound like it's in bad shape for that price, incredible that these are now at the value M-powers were back when I got my Apex almost, LOL.
@Tamasg I managed to score an mPower for $65 on Ebay back in 2017 or 2018. My new desk setup doesn't have room for it, and it won't work as a wireless display at all, but it was a good display for many years. It still works, it just isn't convenient to use with my laptop where it is. Still, a working 32-cell display in any shell for $65 is something I'll never forget.

Über Höhe des Strafbefehls und Dauer des Fahrverbots kann man trefflich streiten. 2 Dinge stören mich aber viel mehr: #Natenom war auf mehrere 100m ÜBERdeutlich zu erkennen. Selbst bei Tempo 90, dh am oberen Ende der Spanne, für mind 4s. Das war also kein Augenblicksversagen. Trotzdem keine MPU. Außerdem formuliert die StA es so, dass Natenom nur vorschriftsgemäß beleuchtet und bekleidet gewesen sei, nicht, dass er mehr trug als er hätte müssen. @stepardo

Something like a dialog in the center of thunderbird screen would work.
Don't use the incoming e -mail notification bubble. Turned that off long ago.
