Danish citizens have launched an online petition, signed by 200,000 people, to purchase California. The petition notes that purchasing the Golden State would provide Danes with more sunshine, dominance in the tech industry, limitless avocado toast, and easy access to Disneyland. In return, California would get the rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.

Can they buy Wisconsin, please? I'd take that offer! 😆

American trans humans are under threat and like in 1930s Germany, they now have to GTFO of their home country.

We have decided we need to collect some information on the possible ways out.

So we made a wiki.

We are collecting information on possible exit routes into various countries. We focus on work, study and self employment visas as they are available at the moment.

I'm seeking recommendations for two different categories of blogs for my RSS reading.
First, I'm looking for any blogs that post reviews of Doctor Who media, such as Doctor Who Verdict.
Second, I'm looking for bloggers who write about blindness assistive technology, not only for myself but also for my Tech-VI announcement service.

The Braille Institute created a font designed to make reading easier for people with low vision called Atkinson Hyperlegible in 2019.

It just released an update (Atkinson Hyperlegible Next) and monospace version with enhanced characters, 7 weights, and variable weight.

They’re free for personal and commercial use.

Is the macOS bug that unexpectedly turns Quick Nav off driving you crazy? Since this appears to occur particularly after focusing on a text field, you might not need to restart VoiceOver to get it working again, just focus on another text field, and Quick Nav should work when you move focus out of the field. If there are no text fields in the current window, pressing VO-F to reveal VoiceOver's find field, and then pressing Escape to dismiss it should do the trick. #TipTuesday
in reply to Zach Bennoui

@ZBennoui I believe it does, however, since the release of macOS Sonoma 14.4, Quick Nav has not always come back when moving focus out of a text field, requiring the user to focus on and then off of another field or restart VoiceOver to restore the expected behavior. There are two entries on the AppleVis bug tracker that I suspect relate to Quick Nav's interaction with text fields or other single key press events in macOS.

@AiraVI I had a wonderful call tonight with agent Mindy who helped me set up a talking blood pressure device. I told her where I got it and how I discovered it so she could see a picture of it and found the instructions to assist me. She was fabulous. Thank you for hiring her. She also asked me if I'd like her to save a link to the manual in my profile in case I needed to call back with future questions. I've been a subscriber since 2018 and I had no idea that information could be saved to a user's profile for agents to reference during future calls.

That sounds like such a great experience! 😊 Mindy is an incredible agent, and we’re so glad she could support you in getting everything set up. Saving the manual to your profile is one of those small but powerful features that can make future calls even smoother. Thank you for sharing this with us- we will make sure to pass this along to Mindy!

Google changed the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. It would be just a total shame if we all flooded Google with feedback telling them the Gulf is labeled incorrectly.

Open Google Maps, zoom out and center on the Gulf of Mexico. Click on your photo in the upper right. Select Help & Feedback. Select Send Product Feedback. Report an issue. Tell them the Gulf of Mexico is labeled incorrectly.

“The White House cannot dictate how news organizations report the news, nor should it penalize working journalists because it is unhappy with their editors’ decisions. The move by the administration to bar a reporter from The Associated Press from an official event open to news coverage today is unacceptable. The WHCA stands with The Associated Press and calls on the administration to immediately change course.” - Eugene Daniels, President of the White House Correspondents’ Association

Oooh, successfully cloned my 1 TB SSD to the 4 TB Samsung 990 Evo Plus one. Compared to the WD 580, there's a slight drop in random IOps, but almost double the sequential write speed, and the drop in random IO is very minimal too. Since this mobo has two M.2 slots, it's not as though I could keep the second drive for work that requires the reading of small data chunks.

@jscholes It can for sure be tricky! Getting the one connected to the CPU was one of the biggest pains of my life. The SSD slot is sandwitched between the GPU and CPU heatsink, so after connecting the bottom into the slot, you had to hold it down with one hand while screwing the driver using the other one. The entire time I feared the end snagging on the pipes and getting bent, thankfully that didn't happen. I was able to get it slightly twisted in to where it stayed afixed eventually and then use the screwdriver, but that itself took 3 times of it falling through to the bottom of the case and then me having to tip it upside down to get it out. Wow just wow. I don't get why they use such tiny ones for M.2, and from what I've experienced, each mobo can come with various sizes, so one M.2 screw may not end up fitting another slot later on.
in reply to James Scholes

@jscholes oh oh this was in a laptop? Wow that's a lot smaller space for sure though, needs even twice more the patience! Primarily why I went back to the ATX desktops, as unsightly and heavy they are compared to Micro-ATX, but the last Mobo was so tiny that I practically had to use pliars to fit the 256 GB M.2 between the HDD cage and heatsink on it, figured ATX would be far easier. In some ways yes, in others it's only a marginal improvement.

I had some time at work while waiting for responses, so tried to get a little deeper into Emacs. I'm kind of getting some of it, but beyond the basic terms, I'm not sure. I wanted a PHP mode, for instance, and installed one after some problems. Now I have no idea what to do. Emacs is saying something about unbalanced parentheses, though my file is blank, and the config page for this mode assumes more Emacs knowledge than I have. I haven't even gotten to EmacSpeak or Speech-L yet.

I know I've talked about Ditto before, but I'm gonna do it again. I just wanted to paste something I last copied two weeks ago. Windows would have long since forgotten it in its clipboard history. I opened Ditto, typed a few characters, tabbed once to get to the results list, and hit enter to paste.
