@TheVoiceGuy It's a pair of wireless lavs. More accurately, it's a pair of transmitters with built-in mics that come with lavs, or you can use other individual lav mics with it. They have their own built-in 32-bit FP mono recorders that sync to timecode, plus you can send the microphone output to 3.5mm mono or stereo, or to a device with a USB-C port.

Sometimes I just send Mom a message that says "look at the Moon" or "look at the sunset" or just "look at the sky" And sometimes send that kind of message to me. I sent her a message just now "look at the moon" and she said "thank you for telling me" and I said "I will always let you know about the moon." And then I tried to write a poem because I thought that sentence was so nice. I don't think it's a very good poem. But poems take time. Maybe it will become good.

Okay well this is it so far. But I will probably change it all tomorrow:

I will always let you know about the moon

Look at the moon
Can you see the moon from where you are?
I’m walking at dusk and I’m feeling lonely
My kid used to like walking with me
I could talk to him about this perfect moon
Its haunted white-gold glow
An illuminated balloon looming over the hills
But he’s too old to go for walks with his mom
So I send you a message that says
Look at the moon

You say thank you for letting me know about the moon
Mom, I will always tell you about the moon
Because maybe some day I’ll go for a walk
And pull my phone out of my pocket
And then I’ll remember
So instead I will have to just whisper
Look at the moon
Can you see the moon where you are?
Will you find a way to let me know about the moon?

And if I’m very lucky
Maybe one day my kid will
Be walking lonely somewhere
And look at the night sky
And think about me
And send me a message

Of all the questionable things about AI, I'm starting to think its biggest crime is simply the staggering amount of resources it has pointlessly drawn away from other, more important work and the way it has corrupted even organisations that were previously doing great work in some misguided, race-to-the-bottom belief that this is actually the most important think for humankind.

First time I’ve hunted to find a native ui framework that’s cross platform, accessible, and doesn’t require learning another language to use.

The solution might be separate interfaces in separate frameworks for separate platforms, for the best accessibility experience, because frankly writing my own cross platform UI framework was not part of the brief.

Yes I know flutter exists, no I don’t want to write a minimal system utility in flutter and dart. This thing has to run on any old hardware.

A look at Phreeli, a privacy-focused phone carrier that lets users sign up with only a ZIP code and uses an encryption system based on "zero-knowledge proofs" (Andy Greenberg/Wired)

When I learn a new technique or skill for the first time do I learn it on a simple project first?

No of course not why would I do that I have to try it on the hardest bloody use case imaginable because that’s the “object” that exists in my head that I feel the need to make manifest so one way or another we’re getting through it.

I just found this page. I don't normally capitalize "braille", but I was curious to know whether there were style guides or some other resource on the subject. I know some people feel the word should always be capitalized, but I've never agreed. BANA, the Braille Authority for North America, apparently holds the position that it should be lowercase. brailleauthority.org/capitaliz…

With winter in full swing (mostly), people are starting to head for the ski slopes. And what’s better than a day of skiing? Après-skiing, maybe? Altitude sickness can sneak up fast — especially if you’re sipping cocktails to enhance the late-day euphoria. @foodandwine discusses why alcohol hits different at higher elevations and how you can prevent that two-by-four-to-the-forehead feeling from drinking too much up there:

The CEO of The Onion set the publication's goal for 2026 to have more subscribers than The Washington Post. At the rate the latter is going, that won't take long.

"For reasons we don't like or understand, our work has become increasingly important."

"Look, we're an independent company, we don't use AI to write headlines and make art, and we're one of roughly three publications who are up for the fight. Unlike other places, The Onion is quadrupling down on being a pain in the ass, politically. Are you?

Luckily, I’m not in need of any RAM at the moment, that with the prices skyrocketing. Depending on the modules I see price increases of up to factor 5 compared to two months ago.

This article argues that this isn’t “just” AI but OpenAI specifically who bought up a huge chunk of the world-wide supply. What for? Nothing actually, merely messing with the competition. mooreslawisdead.com/post/sam-a…

Given how much the AI bubble distorts hardware demand, when that bubble bursts the ripple effects throughout the entire IT landscape will be enormous. And that’s not even considering how much of the financial system is invested in this.

Dictionary.com's word of the year is “6-7,” a Gen Alpha slang term with no actual definition.

Oxford’s word of the year is “rage bait” and Cambridge picked "parasocial."

Together, they paint a picture of digital nihilism. theconversation.com/2025s-word…

Plenty of people is blaming "AI" in the abstract for the recent RAM price spikes, but I haven't seen anybody around here point to the actual and direct culprit of it all: Sam Altman secretly bought 40% of silicon wafers (not even produced RAM, just the silicon wafers) from two of the biggest RAM manufacturers, at the same time. Not even with specific plans for what kind of RAM do with them. This is just to mess up with competitors.

Seriously, you can't hate OpenAI enough.
