Tonight I’m thinking about #emigration and how tempting it feels. Right now, at this moment, there’s nothing I’d like better than to just up and leave from this country that has turned into a complete and utter hellscape for any of us who still hold onto even a shred of our humanity. I’ve heard people posit that it’s relatively easy to leave, but I beg to differ. First, not only am I a person with a disability, I’m also married to another person with a disability, and I already know many countries take a rather dim view of people with disabilities popping up. Public charge, anyone? It doesn’t matter that I have guaranteed income, and Sarah is employed. So emigrating is pretty much a nonstarter. I even looked into #Canada a while ago, since I am second generation (my grandfather emigrated from Quebec), but that doesn’t give me any special perks. So, as long as I’m stuck here, I’ll just continue annoying people with my periodic shitposts.

I feel like it would take a lot of planning. I don't think it would be particularly easy, either, but I haven't really tried to look into it, so other people might know things that I don't. It would probably be somewhat easier for someone who can retire and doesn't need to worry too much about generating income, and of course the cost of living is lower in some places, and every country will have its own rules. I was reading an article about Thailand (I think) having the equivalent of assisted living facilities targeted at expats from places like the US. I was reading a post from someone trying to emigrate (I don't know what his reasons were), but his employer wasn't being supportive, so he would eventually need to find another job. I don't think I would leave, personally. Aside from the disability-related reasons you mention, I would need to figure out where to go and take the time to learn the logistics of trying to establish residency somewhere else. It would be a longer trip to visit my family, and I'd need to learn a new place and likely a new language. I'm not nearly as eager to uproot myself as I might've been when I was younger and had more energy. Sometimes I phantasize about living in a village near the ocean on an island in the south Pacific (and I know that that's oddly specific--sometimes I wonder if I had a past life like that and I'm sub-consciously remembering it, but no way to know), but it's not something that I'm likely to actually try to do.

but, essentially, the music is emitted from the music, through bone conduction is emitted from the stick, but does not start playing until one has the sucker at the back of the mouth, so when one bites on it, the song vibrates through the jawbones.. But once the sucker has been eaten, the music stops. I guess one can keep the stick. not sure if anything else could be done with it after that. Sounds kind of wasteful if not.

Záměrně píšu zmrzlí a ne zamrzlí. V tom by byl obrovský rozdíl. A už vůbec namrzlí....Ale to zase odbočuju někam jinam na tenký led.....šmarja zase špatně....no prostě máme tady -14 a já mám po venčení asi z mozku ledovou kostku. 😂 Sira Artura už druhý den necháváme doma. Chodí se venčit stejně, jako Jeho Lordstvo. A já dneska budu v práci úplně sama! Heeeeč! Jenom teda budu muset kontrolovat skleníky, protože zlobí vytápění a já bych popřípadě musela znovu nahazovat kotel. A zítra mám volno, protože s Dcerou národa jedeme k doktorovi. Její zdravotní problémy přetrvávají a pořád nikdo neví, co jí je. Čeká nás vyšetření na gastru.
Na vás dneska určitě někde čeká nějaké příjemné překvapení, tak si dnešní den pořádně užijte! 😊

@jonathan859 you're throwing cash at the big apps by giving them unlimited access to your data to sell, while these free apps don't sell data, don't have ads, and don't have a revenue stream at all.

You're expecting devs to just "magic" a fully featured app to compete with mega corporations for nothing.

Either drop your expectations a little and show some gratitude or pay them.

Since you didn't get any answers that I see, I'm not sure if you're still experienceing this, but yes, Microsoft been making changes, not all for the better, in VSCode lately. Reporting the line & column number are currently working as expected for us, but alternate releases seem to fix, then re-break it. If you like to neaten things up, and particularly if you want to mount, say a 8-port gigabit router or whatnot under a desk or just out of the way, 3M Dual Lock strips are your bestie—it locks with itself, so you don't have to deal with separate hook and loop pieces

I've hung huge 180w Dell power bricks on the underside of my desks at work, and if I have to replace one, just cut another strip off the roll and attach to the part already stuck to the desk

I updated my Debian 12 server to Debian 13. I wish Windows updates were that painless. The update ran because I explicitly told it to. There were no long restarts, no "don't turn off your computer" pre-Windows screens, no surprises. Just some terminal commands, one restart (which I asked for), and that was it. Debian 12 became Debian 13. Smooth, easy, painless, and directly under my control.

Damn. Sometimes I forget how useful claude is. So I was struggling to add my classes this semester to my calendar. The Apple Calendar app on iOS is an absolute mess (for me at least) and I needed to add 3 classes, all of which had different times and dates. I decided, screw it. I'll have Claude try to add it to my account. Instad, it comes up with a better idea. It creates this .ICS file. All I had to do was open Outlook, import, boom. All my classes are on my calendar now. No catches.

I just pushed a small #NVDARC for Mac build out, featuring some small improvements to controlling a Mac via NVDA remote. Modifiers shouldn't get stuck as often anymore, as well as more keyboard shortcuts should be possible to press now, such as VO+Shift+letters. There's still more work to be done, as I can't press all VO+shift+letter combinations yet for some reason, but there's enough of an improvement here that I figured it worth updating.

Well, I finally did it! I was working on this project for a couple days now, since Saturday. Since we are in 2026, I thought I would make a montage of the best moments on TeamTalk last year, this compilation being from Dane's TeamTalk server stonercloud. I wasn't on any other TeamTalk servers. Even though I felt like we weren't on it as much this past year, I still managed to get some pretty funny moments, and quite fun conversations, and things that might make you say what the fuck? Not to mention, singing funny stuff. I'd say I have a few favorites here, but I won't go over them for spoilers obviously. The cast of people in these recordings were myself, Dane, Ethan (though I didn't feature him that much), hunter, McKenna and Crayton. With the ability to customize VoiceOver actions and add your own shortcuts, the NVDA Remote controller iOS app very quickly became one of my favorite applications. It still feels surreal, having access to my PC from anywhere, with the ability to be very productive. The only thing more surreal than that is the ability to control my Mac, that one I never expected. Huge thanks @Bri, you've made a massive difference, and I hope you continue maintaining it as long as possible.

Turns out you don't need to take the motherboard out to get to the m.2 slot after all. It's under a big ol' heatsink, which I took off, but it wasn't obvious to me, because the drive was still attached to it by thermal paste. So, I was also taking the old drive out, and didn't even notice it was there. STUPID!

Anyway, a brand new Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD has been installed, replacing the much slower 512GB Chinese whatever drive. Now I can do what I actually wanted to do with this thing in the first place.

It'd sure be nice if RAM were reasonably priced. I'd like to upgrade this box from the 16GB it came with, but it's just not practical.

Sometimes, games are like real life. For instance, it's been a long time since I played NetHack, but the player starts the game on the first level of the dungeon and has a dog with him/her (or, in later versions, maybe a cat). The pet would fight things along with the player, and it could help the player in some ways--a pet dog would never step on a cursed item, for instance, which could help the player determine whether an item is cursed. But pets have pros and cons, so, in that regard, deciding whether to use the dog when playing NetHack is a bit like a blind person deciding whether to use a guide dog. nethack.fandom.com/wiki/Pet
