anyone familiar with VSCode and Jupyter notebooks on here?

we're switching to VSCode in our computer science class this year; my question is, how accessible are Jupyter notebooks to screen readers? are there any pitfalls we need to be aware of? what keyboard shortcuts do we need to know?

#Accessibility #Blind #Python #VSCode #NVDA

Question about #VSCode, does anyone know? Before, when I pressed Ctrl+shift+E, I was brought to the Explorer tree in the location of the currently opened file. Now it's kinda random. Is it a bug or is there a setting somewhere? Very annoying.

Does anybody know if debugging functionality is accessible with #VSCode? And if so, am I right you need to switch back and forth between virtual cursor and forms mode (#JAWS terminology), or browse mode and focus mode (#NVDA terminology)? #Accessibility

Products are so desperate to integrate #ai they have forsaken any kind of user research to gauge the demand of these features. #vscode has gone a step further and would never assume their chatbot sidebar would need a "close" button.

Tried #Gemini Code Assist in #VSCode. A cool thing actually, if you know what you're doing (which is true for every #AI assistant though).

The #Zed text editor (zed.dev) finally opened early access program for their #Windows builds. I suggest everyone from the #Accessibility dev community to sign up for it, hopefully (maybe!) we will be able to shape its accessibility. Many sighted people from the Apple land praise it for speed and amount of useful functions. I won't quit using #VSCode of course, but why not to have another tool in the box?

The latest proprietary #VSCode extension that no longer works in non-Microsoft builds of the MIT licensed VS Code source code appears to be C and C++ support.

Your regular reminder: every day more of VSCode functionality is proprietary, and increasingly #FOSS hostile.

In my opinion, Visual Studio Code is not in the same category of text editors as Emacs or Vim, especially for keyboard-intensive users. However, it has some highly attractive features and extensions. One such extension uses the languagetool spelling and grammar checker to create a tree widget populated by errors and warnings from languagetool and other sources, including markup validation.
The original Ltex extension for using languagetool no longer seems to be maintained, but this fork is.

I can already announce that next IC_Null stream, this tuesday at 3 PM EST, is about the #accessibility of notebooks like #Jupyter, #googleColab, the #VSCode implementation of this concept. If you do #dataScience, #machineLearning, even the polarizing #AI stuff, you are going to run into this at some point. Can a #screenReader user use these properly? Where's the #accessibility hurdles? Do any of these work better than the others? These are all things I'll try to go into.
See you Tuesday, 3 PM ESt over at https;//twitch.tv/ic_null or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding #selfPromo

Terraform plugin pro VSCode pritvrdil v prosazovani jejich cloudu. Pridali ho do hlavni listy.

Kazdopadne plugin sel z IDE pryc. Uvidim, jak na tom budou nahrady az budu zase potrebovat psat Terraform soubory.

Current status : looking for the “*no thanks, I’d rather die*” button.

(And #gitlab, do not suggest ever again that I’m using #VSCode as my “local IDE”. This is totally inappropriate.)

In the last Insider builds of #VSCode they broke first-letter navigation in the Explorer tab. If it is as important for you as it is for me, please go to the issue and put a thumbs-up reaction. Thanks! github.com/microsoft/vscode/is… #Accessibility
