Since you said you were wanting to use #Vmware check out #Fedora. If you want to install on to hardware directly I'd say try #Slint. #Slint doesn't seem to speak under #Vmware for the install process.
@DavidGoldfield What is used for a screen reader on the desktop mode? My main PC is currently running #slint with I3 window manager in place of a desktop. I’m not particularly fond of those, desktops, that is.
