Just rebooted and I’m up and running with Fedora Silverblue 40.
(Just tried reinstalling mozilla-openh264 – so videos work in Firefox – but it failed with the same error. Not a big deal, I’m using @Vivaldi as my main browser these days anyway and I guess the Fedora folks will fix this in time.)
More importantly, I wonder if the screen reader has been fixed yet. (Yes, Fedora ships with a broken screen reader.)

Note that I just encountered the following issue:
https://github.com/fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker/issues/536
Which I worked around by removing mozilla-openh264 before running the rebase again, at which point it succeeded:

Just checked and yes, the screen reader is still broken in Fedora 40. (Cannot be controlled; keyboard shortcuts/modifier key doesn’t work.)
So this is yet another release where the screen reader is broken by default.
It’s amazing to me that this is not a showstopper.

Congratulations to the entire @fedora community on the release of F40!
And this is awesome: The "Slimbook Fedora 2" laptop looks like a great way to get more people up and running with #FreeSoftware and best of all, they donate 3% of the proceeds to @gnome.

Big thank you to @dogphilosopher for an update to flatpaks on Bluefin. Now flatpaks can be preinstalled from the ISO rather than having to download them on first boot in order to provide the intended experience. That means @thunderbird on the dock by default!
Awesome step forward for us to be able to bring you intended apps by default without straying from @flathub
If you can help with testing the new ISOs, please see below for instructions.

Anyone in my network interested in research and prototype network portal for Flatpak?
In the long run we are interested in:
• Give more control to users over app network access
• Allow apps that need network access to be considered “Safe”
We expect something like unsharing the network namespace and a bridge on the host for permissions / monitoring.
Boost welcome

A few days ago I talked about why I chose #Fedora #Silverblue and how finding the right environment for me would be a motivation to contribute to #OpenSource projects, something I've always wanted to do. Well... I finally made it! 🎉
I've implemented a small feature (link below) in #Errands, the best to-do app for #GNOME. It's already merged so it will appear in a future version! ✅
Yes, it's a modest first step, but also an impulse to keep supporting projects I like! 😊

It's almost been 40 years since the first release of #Fedora!
Just kidding.
I just wanted to share that little micro-panic attack with friends.
I'm still wondering whether I should install KDE Connect or not. On the one hand, great smartphone integration on the computer, on the other hand: do I really need it? Longer battery life is more important to me, and for the few times I want to transfer photos to the computer, I can also connect the USB cable.

GNOME attaches great importance to #accessibility, so I vote for a #Fedora with #GNOME 😺
And since disabled people really need a particularly stable and robust operating system, I will even go so far as to recommend the immutable Fedora Silverblue version.

I've just tested in a virtual machine and you're right. But even with Alt F2, which you need to know, it's clearly not the right solution.
Since #Fedora is working on a new installer, they should take inspiration from the #Ubuntu one (which also recently redesigned its own), which now lets you configure accessibility right from the start.

Part of me is tempted to use #UBlue to make a custom #Fedora #Silverblue image to add in the Pop_OS Gnome extensions, make #vim the default editor, and #Thunderbird the default mail reader and call it "Blue Bacon Linux"
Y'know, something which has been bothering me for years…
#Crash reporting is super useful. It highlights #critical #issues in #software. On #Fedora with #GNOME this can be set up to #automaticallyreport such issues.
GNOME assures me the report is #anonymous.
In order to submit the report, I must register, using verified personally identifying information.
