Re last boost (about VMWare switching all their products to subscriptions), the page that was posted there talks about simplifying the VMWare portfolio, but at the same time doesn't mention any end-user products like fusion or workstation instead talking exclusively about the B2B products (B2B means selling to businesses.) For the moment, it looks like the desktop offering like fusion and player are sticking around, including the free personal use licenses. blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/20…

On inheritance and why it's good Rust doesn't have it

Just noticed this in the article that I think is not accurate:

"There is no inheritance in Rust. There are no fields in traits. There is simply no way of saying that in order to implement a trait, your type must have certain fields."

Traits can have implemented methods taking self, and if those methods refer to fields in self type-checking won't allow a struct to implement that trait without having those fields, no?

Re last boost: I’m really happy about this. Kotaku was my favorite gaming news site to follow thanks to the combination of good reporting and a great sense of humor in the posts and it was heartbreaking to see the site get increasingly worse thanks to management decisions and most of the core staff slowly leaving. Just looking at the front page of Aftermath I’m already seeing what I loved about Kotaku here minus the giant outplaying videos and slideshow galleries.
Edit: Although, their sharing widget only has links to Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Email. Needs more fedi :)

Hi there, Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

Re last boost: Just one more thing to add to the Windows 11 is cursed pile. The TLDR is if you get Windows Pro, after installation it enables bitlocker in software mode which can tank performance by up to 40% in random operations. The best part is while you can turn bitlocker off easily enough, if the SSD you use supports hardware encryption and you want to use that instead you need to reinstall windows and make a change in the group policy editor in the installer. Didn't work? Oops have to reinstall Windows again.
