We just released a big update, with support for the following:

- Full Table of Contents (during export)
- Apple Intelligence Writing Tools (where available)
- New iOS Shortcuts (via Control Center and iPhone Action Button)

We also fixed a weird crash when dragging a project from Backup onto the Library. For full release notes, see ulysses.app/release-notes

The last time I turned on my Mac Mini was two weeks ago when I recabled the desk.

The time before that was in June 2023 when I moved into this apartment.

in reply to JP Mens

I have two of them (one m1, one Intel) on top of each next to me on my work desk. I don't use them even once a month.

New song by the fabulous Marsh Family for these trying times.

"Bohemian Trumpsody" - Marsh Family adaptation of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen about trump.

How is this real life? Wish it was fantasy!
Ought to be landslide, not a race to the final week
Look in his eyes, it’s up to you guys, you see
He’s just a playboy, he feels no empathy
Because he’s kinda dumb, kinda slow
Little lie, shitty joke
Every single swing vote really really matters to liberty

Of course, another interesting side effect of this iPhone 8 battery, is that it will happily do things like play music or Youtube at 0% for a good half an hour or so, LOL.
in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis That's not all that bad, but you'll likely hit the performance dynamic throttle routines eventually.
in reply to Adam MacLeod

Meh I guess I will. If that happens, I will just have to buy a new phone. Which i don't want to do, because no more mute switch.
in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis I have nothing bad to say about keeping an old phone as long as it works, but I do wonder about your misgivings with the mute switch. As far as I can tell there's no disadvantage to the action button. you can make it mute the phone, or you can make it do something else entirely. It's way easier to press through a pocket, and can't get dirt stuck in it
in reply to Simon Jaeger (Procrastodon)

I just like the switch, it has existed ever since I bought an iPhone. and I have also never had dirt stick in it. Even when I went to the beach. I just like it more that is, it was a unique iPhone thing I haven't seen on other phones or brands over here, and it makes me sad to not see it anymore. I am going to buy a keyboard, or more storage, so I might have the chance to look at a newer iPhone and see if I like them before I say anything else. I kinda doubt it, a little, but yeah. I still have my 7, and it works. I just think it's too early to retire this one, yet. It's only like, threey years old.
in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

I also don't think the newer iPhones are some major upgrade besides AI which I do not wish to use. So, if the battery goes bad, I'll just probably change it, and go with it till it has support for like, four or so more years.
in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis Well, you may have an option to get your battery replaced, but I am unfamiliar with how Apple handles that in your country. If you do want to keep your phone, but get a new battery, you should contact your nearest Apple Store and see if their Genius Bar will do it for you.

I love reading articles about #CSS anchors and dialogs which specifically mentions accessibility advantages over solutions created with JS and then half the examples aren't working on mobile because the applied styling / used content is too large to tap on the exit button / backdrop or see how it's positioned 🤦‍♂️

in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis I wanted to get media storage off the local disks across both instances. Its bad for the SSD, and I'd rather break Linode's, because they have millions to replace it, LOL.

in reply to Adam MacLeod

That, didn't work that well, it sees it as an attachment here. You broke it! Nooo!
in reply to Мира🇧🇬🇭🇺

It plays it, but I have to open the link to play it. Like how Go to social did things before they implemented their player, which now makes it work with web clients.
in reply to Adam MacLeod

I am pretty sure, though. When gts didn't have a player, all the media attachments people posted via masto were seen as links. You should've seen the mess. Somehow, though, not a lot of attachments. LOL
in reply to Adam MacLeod

Noooo, that's pretty though. I mean, it works, but not like masto stuff works. :D

Welcome Marwan Yassini as #curl commit author 1311: github.com/curl/curl/pull/1545…

wow, I didn't know that curl can subscribe on and publish on #mqtt topics. That's awesome as I feel the mqtt client is somewhat awkward to use and a lot of mqtt browsers suck.
Thanks!

I looked at the first ten minutes of the GitHub Universe intro yday and the frequency of AI getting mentioned exhausted my ears immediately and I had to shut down the stream and go do something useful. For health reasons.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

I'm immediately turned off by any product that hypes stupid Ai. Partially because I know there is no actual Ai involved and partially because all this Ai fluff being excessively mentioned is annoying.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

there is a little bit of actual good stuff being announced too, but it's all being pushed to the margins.

(Best moment, in the Community Maintainers track: "...and now there is AI in pull requests." (dead silence) (from the back: "yeah we noticed.") *presenter grimaces*)

Both questions are equally valid.

fair enough.
I thought there was some kind of commentary in code with some keywords like "superseded by" or similar ones, so you could count them.
in reply to Michele Adduci

several things that are deprecated and thus have code we *could* shave off if we would bump the SONAME still share code with the new implementation as well

in reply to Matthias

in reply to Michael Vogel

in reply to Matthias

Why they’re a dying company: More than a quarter of new code at Google is generated by AI / AI is hugely important to Google’s products, & it sounds like the company relies on it internally, too.

Every time I come to www.amazon.com I see the following message: "With Amazon Business, you would have saved $120.82 in the last year.

What is "Amoc" and why is it so important?
_________________________________________

The dangers of a collapse of the main Atlantic Ocean circulation, known as Amoc, have been “greatly underestimated” and would have devastating and irreversible impacts, according to an open letter released by 44 experts from 15 countries.

There are indications that Amoc has been slowing down for the last 60 or 70 years due to global heating. The most ominous sign is the cold blob over the northern Atlantic. The region is the only place in the world that has cooled in the past 20 years or so, while everywhere else on the planet has warmed – a sign of reduced heat transport into that region, exactly what climate computer models have predicted in response to Amoc slowing as a result of greenhouse gas emissions.

Another indicator is a reduction in the salt content of seawater. In the cold blob region, salinity is at its lowest level since measurements began 120 years ago. This is probably linked to Amoc slowing down and bringing less salty water and heat from the subtropics.

It is an amplifying feedback: as Amoc gets weaker, the oceans gets less salty, and as the oceans gets less salty, then Amoc gets weaker. At a certain point this becomes a vicious cycle which continues by itself until Amoc has died, even if we stop pushing the system with further emissions.

The big unknown here – the billion-dollar question – is how far away this tipping point is. It is very difficult to answer because the process is non-linear and would be triggered by subtle differences in salinity, which in turn depend on amounts of rainfall and cloud cover over the ocean as well as Greenland melting rates. These are hard to model accurately in computers so there is a big uncertainty relating to when the tipping point will be reached.

People on the EN #Wikipedia keep editing the ill-fated communist leader Musso's name to be "Munawar Musso" or "Musso Munawar". (It's currently the latter.)

In any old newspapers from the 1920s-50s he was only ever Musso. The oldest appearance I can find online of "Munawar Musso" is from the World Marxist Review in English in the 1970s. In recent English and Indonesian books (2010s-2020s) he seems to be now referred to regularly as Munawar Musso.🤔

Today is the 50th anniversary of women gaining the right to have mortgages, business loans and credit cards in their own names.

I am 47 years old. My mom did not have access to her own credit card without her husband or father's approval. People like to think that this stuff happened in the ancient past. It didn't. People you know were directly affected by anti-women systemic oppression.

Hey fediverse, I'd like to become more active in something that is more meaningful than building webshops. Since I'm quite good with #computers I'm looking for stuff that combines #computing with #sustainability or #ecology, #restoration etc.

But I don't know what's out there and am not sure what exactly to look for, so I'm hoping for some fediverse magic.

Anything you have, articles, projects, etc. Would be cool if you boosted for reach.

IT ticket: Request for wired mouse.
Justification: The workstation lock policy is causing my wireless mouse to discharge too quickly.

IT: "The what now?"

Me: "The thing when my laptop locks if I step away for a few minutes, even though I work from home."

IT: "What does that have to do with your mouse."

Me: "The mouse jiggler I bought keeps my mouse continuously active, and sending all those packets takes power, and the battery runs down. You do know how batteries work, right?"

IT: ...

Wish #AppleIntelligence didn't show summaries in the list of unread emails in Mail on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS? On iOS and iPadOS, you can turn this off by going to Settings > Apps > Mail and switching the "Summarize message previews" toggle off. You can turn this off on macOS by choosing Mail > Settings, (or pressing Command-Comma) clicking the Viewing button in the toolbar, and deselecting the "Summarize message previews" checkbox. #TipTuesday
