yikes, bsky removing or labeling Palestinian accounts as spam, ostensibly because they are following too many people or posting gofundmes, but according to these threads the problem looks too widespread to just be a coincidence from e.g. automated flagging. Can't find any response from their mod team. Composable moderation is good but i am not sure how the atproto labeling model addresses the baseline problem of scaling suspensions/bans - either they take a very light touch and you get a flood of nazis, or you need to lean on automated tools or overworked mods without enough context which has (hopefully accidentally, but still really bad) impacts like this.

For some reason people fleeing the sinking #Twitter / #X ship for #BlueSky don't seem to be aware of the fact that crypto bros at #BlockchainCapital bought a huge stake in the company just a few weeks ago.
Bluesky is almost an exact copy of X, a centralized dickland. We really should just stop sheering for and jumping on these same toxic boats over and over again.
I rather prefer that people stay on X than that they go to Bluesky bragging believing they did a good thing.

A bunch of people around here saw a nice fireball yesterday morning, and I just talked to a local radio show about it. From what I can tell, this fireball wasn't anything particularly weird, perhaps on the brighter side of "normal" fireball range, and I think a lot of people saw it because of the time of day (~7:30am local), visible from Utah to mid-latitude Sask!
We received 170 reports about a fireball seen over Alberta, British Columbia, ID, Idaho, Montana, MT, ND, NV, Saskatchewan, UT, WA and WY on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 around 13:33 UT.
In case you ever see a fireball (a *very* bright shooting star), the American Meteor Society has a great reporting tool and tutorial. Just like "did you feel it" reports for earthquakes, this is very scientifically valuable crowd-source info!

@cachondo I knew about drive A but wasn't sure about drive B. It makes sense knowing what I know now. But when I was a kid, I was like, why are we jumping from A to C?
@singingnala @cachondo I still have boxes of 3.5-inch floppies that I'm slowly copying to my SSD and to my other backups. I bought a USB 3.5 drive from Amazon and it does indeed show up as drive A:.
@singingnala @cachondo I remember owning a pc with two 3.5" floppy drives. Good times. There's probably a way to remap the hd to A if you wanted to, though.
@Lprazdnik @singingnala @cachondo My first PC had a 5.25 inch floppy drive and my next PC had both a 3.5 and a 5.25 drive. Fortunately, I don't have any of the larger 5.25 disks, just the 3.5 inch disks.

I'm so glad we've had so many great Eight Doctor audios, thanks to Big Finish. I haven't yet read any of the Eight Doctor adventures from BBC Books but they're definitely on my list and I have "the Eight Doctors" ready to read in my book player app. I'm one of those people who also feels that Mcgann should now be considered the ninth Doctor; it bugs me that the War Doctor never gets counted. Then again, with what we now know about the Timeless Child, Mcgann could well be the 87th Doctor, for all we know. #DoctorWho
@DavidGoldfield I agree. I've listened to some of the Big Finish 8th Doctor stories and enjoyed those. I really liked the 8th Doctor BBC Novels though, there were some fantastic stories there. I'm sure you'll enjoy as well, the 8 Doctor's is a great place to start and you've got a wealth of adventures to discover in that range as well.
@DavidGoldfield Even if you count the War Doctor, Paul McGann is still the Eighth Doctor, as he comes before John Hurt's War Doctor, who is technically the ninth incarnation of the Doctor, not counting the Timeless Children Doctors.
