Zoom has launched new firmware versions for the Zoom H1E, H4E and H6E.
The H1E firmware is version 2.00, the H4E version is 2.02, and the H6 version is 3.02.
Changelog for all versions is pretty similar. Here's the one for the H6E, which is basically identical to that of the H4E.
Release to add the following features in November 2025 1. Input gain setting function 2. AI Noise Reduction function to analyze and reduce environmental sounds and other noise. 3. Functions to record and play MP3 files. 4. Function to export files in MP3 format. 5. Setting to disable mix file recording. 6. Support for the ZOOM Handy Control & Sync controller application.

There doesn't seem to be any update to the H2 Essential or the H5 and H6 Studio that I've seen so far.
Before anyone asks, no, I haven't done any testing. I don't know if the "input gain setting" actually adjusts anything on the DAC, I.E. provides more headroom for hot condenser microphones, etc. which is a common problem with the H1E and Sound Professionals microphones, or if it just changes what is sent to the file.
I've heard that you press the third softkey on the H1E in rec standby (the button normally used for setting marks while recording) to activate AI noise reduction, and that it mostly just removes high-end. Again, don't know, haven't personally done any testing yet.
This was a minor footnote, but you just alerted me to the existence of the h6Studio, which I did not know about. Seems like this removes the last bit of need for an h6Essential. MP3 support is interesting, but only if there's a limiter involved. Otherwise, it's still worse than the H1N in that regard. Interesting that they seem to be straying away from the minimal 32-bit recording functionality though.
Yeah, if you want six inputs, I can't think of a good reason to get the H6 Essential over the H6 Studio other than cost. The microphones and microphone preamps in the Studio are vastly superior. It has a limiter for 16 and 24-bit recording support if you need it, and it's a pretty decent one.
That's what I thought too. Annoyingly, I already got an H5Studio, not knowing there was something with more inputs. I probably won't need them often, but the H6Studio is pretty much the recorder that does it all, and I'd be able to sell my H6E for sure. The H5Studio is pretty impressive. Apparently the H6Studio also has a line input along with having two more combo jacks than the H5Studio.
@simon I'm pretty sure you can use the 3.5mm input on the H5 Studio X/Y microphone capsule as a line input, but I haven't tried. The combo jacks have a software mic/line selection. Maybe that one does too if you plug something in.

Also, Zoom is apparently releasing a two channel wireless microphone system next year sometime, called the Zoom WLM-1. The transmitters will have built-in microphones, or you can use your own lavs. Who knows if it will be any good.

@vitallie I have them and use them a lot. They're so lightweight that I end up using them where a wired microphone would make sense sometimes. A Rode transmitter and a pair of AirPods make for a truly excellent wireless headset replacement as long as you don't mind the slight lag of AirPods, for instance.
Thanks for sharing. I very much apreciate the new features. Just wish they would have added FLAC and maybe Opus rather than MP3. ... or all of them at best.

@wasnhenning I feel a bit weird about recording in lossless compressed formats on devices like that, generally speaking, as it's probably not as easy to recover should something break, but mp3 is easy and everything plays it, I guess.

This update is available to GrapheneOS users via our app repository and will also be bundled into the next OS release. MAJOR and MINOR may get updated with any significant Google Chrome release (Beta or Stable update). MAJOR must get updated for any backwards incompatible user data change (since this data survives updates).
BUILD must get updated whenever a release candidate is built from the current trunk (at least weekly for Dev channel release candidates). The BUILD number is an ever-increasing number representing a point in time of the Chromium trunk.
PATCH must get updated whenever a release candidate is built from the BUILD branch.

You can record with AI noise isolator. It analyzes the noise during first 3 seconds to get noise profile. you can enable it with shortcut, the third button in the top row (button which marks during recording) or in rec settings. I imagine given the extremely limited processing power of the H1E that AI noise reduction won't be too impressive. I'll play with this later, I.E. when it isn't 3:51 AM.
Since you have the H1E and H2E, how much do they actually differ. I have the H1E but was also considering the H2E, what do you use which one for. Is having both actually worth it?
They're very different. The H2E uses a M/S array, and it's side-address. You can record from front/back at the same time, which I don't really find all that useful. To do this, it uses a cute little trick where it has a front and back cardioid, and it inverts the phase of the sides to correct the stereo image depending on what side it's coming from. Or you can record from the front mics/external 3.5mm input jack at the same time, either to a mix file or separate tracks. You can adjust the stereo width of the microphones to three presets -- 90 degrees, 120 degrees or mono, or record in raw M/S and do all the processing in a DAW. To me, the microphones of the H2E are a bit cleaner, and have a totally different sound. The unit is also quite a lot larger. Not huge, but definitely a different form factor. IT's more like a little side-address studio condenser microphone with buttons and a display on it. There is also a slot for the BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter for wirelessly syncing it with other devices and setting the time.
@jonathan859 I also have the H1E, and the H2E, and absolutely love my H2E. in fact my H1E just sits in a drore collecting dust. smile. personally I like the way the H2E sits in my hand better than the H1E, but like I said this is me personally. I wonder why they don't have this update out for the H2E? that isn't cool.
@JamminJerry @jonathan859 Just guessing here, but the fact that the H2 essential isn't a standard stereo recorder (it's M/S) makes those changes a little more complicated than the rest to implement.
@jonathan859 Follow the update guide included in the firmware zip file. Part of it doesn't speak. Be sure to have it plugged into USB-C, either a PC or a power supply on the other end, or the firmware update process won't start.
BTW imput gain can be set on home screen before recording, pres forward and rewind buttons. I am comfused what it actually sets. I set it to max. With mp3 it seems that there is some limiter enabled, for wav I am getting distorted output e. g. I hear that it sounds like distorted.
So it's probably like setting the gain on all the other Zoom recorders. If you normalize one of those distorted recordings, it'll probably go down by a whole bunch of DB and clean itself right up. Not a chance in PCM land, but good that it has that failsafe for mp3.
oops, its not distorted, it just sounds like that when listening back on the unit, I get recording with +17 db, after lovering the volume it sounds fine. I am still confused when using it as usb mic, because you can set send volume and imput gain. But maybe people used to mixers understands how that makes sense.
Sounds like it's probably not actually adjusting the real input gain then. So no more headroom than before if you turn it down more and use sensitive mics, I'm guessing.
now you can with prew and next buttons or how thei call it. Two buttons at the bottom to browse recording and revind / fast forward. It works just on the home screen before recording. When setup at max and turing volume knob to max, you can set it really too loud.
Easy test: Turn it all the way down and thump one of the mics. Does it still say "input overload"? If so, then it's not actually setting the input gain.
Did you update the accessibility file as well? Sorry if that is an obvious thing or something, have just heard you need to update that seperatly or something.
BTW when you export to mp3, you get dialog with format selection, bitrate selection and then something where you can select on or off but I have no idea what that should be. Maybe normalization or limiting or something?
I have two complaints: 1) It seems that AI learning is just some kind of placebo. I tested it with various enviroments, noises, music... and I am getting the same result. 2) When you dont have headphones, you can set the imput gain volume too low so you actually record silence.

Solution to the alarm and many other apps and web pages that require slide, a gesture that is impossible with voiceover is the following. Go to settings, select accessibility, then select touch. Within the touch menu, simply enable the prefer single touch actions. In iOS 26, doing this allows me to effectively use the alarm like a normal person. If you do any stock or crypto trading and you aare required to slide to confirm transactions, enabling this option will stop that stupidity as well. An accessibility tip from the NER to you. Use it wisely if you need that kind of thing.
I'm pretty sure I'll regret making this, but upload your public monstrosity and let's see how it goes. Some fun may be had. I'll watch carefully for now 🕵️

@feld Running my own email server is probably why I couldn't receive the emails. I run my own server and it's stricter than most of the big companies' servers. Also, because I run my own server I was able to see the errors in the logs telling me why the emails weren't coming in, and change my config to grant exceptions to fix it.
