RevK's privacy-friendly GPS logger

My very clever friend, @revk, has been making a GPS logger which requires no third party account or server, after I said I was looking for one.

Here are my initial thoughts on using it.

tl;dr: it just works. It automatically logs our journeys to an on-board micro-SD card, and uploads them, via https POST, to my webserver, when it connects to Wi-Fi. And it runs Free software!

That really shouldn't be happening, but it's hard to say what the cause could be, without more details about your setup. Please ask the community on ask.libreoffice.org with details (LibreOffice version, macOS version, document format, where you're saving it etc.) and someone should be able to help 👍

Melissa De Silva has a cool video on CNA tracing her Kristang (Portuguese / Malaccan Eurasian) roots through food.

‘Eurasian’ in a Malaysian and Singaporean context is approximately similar to the idea of say, ‘Anglo-Indian’: not just a recent generational mix but centuries of it, with their own distinct cultures and languages and food

i just learned that you can get a personal MIME type registered, e.g. iana.org/assignments/media-typ…

since 1996, 22 of such MIME types were registered, by a total of 10 people

🔥 tilemaker 3.0!

It’s fast – at least seven times faster than 2.0.
It’s memory-efficient – just one-sixth the memory.
Convert the whole @openstreetmap planet into vector tiles in as little as 90min or with just 24GB RAM.

New features: PMTiles output, GeoJSON support, better relation handling, easy .pbf filtering, command-line server for prototyping, better polygon labels, per-tile feature limits. Plus geometry and build fixes.

The 2023 Apple Vision Accessibility Report Card for Jan 2024 reveals slightly decreasing satisfaction with VoiceOver features and user experience across iOS, iPadOS and macOS compared to 2022, contrasted by mostly improved ratings for braille and low vision capabilities. While reactions to new 2023 vision accessibility features were moderately more positive with a 3.7 average rating compared to 3.5 in 2022, Apple's performance in addressing critical bugs remains low at 3.0. Overall the latest report card points to regressions in the VoiceOver experience but progress expanding support for braille and low vision users, tempered by persistent dissatisfaction regarding bug fixes.
